Does OPC have a collation problem?

I finally got around to buying 2 boxes of OPC to start doing the 1-600 set. I did fairly well in the first box. However, I'm 4 packs into box 2 and have only pulled 2 base cards that aren't doubles from box 1. I'm already afraid to open the rest of the box as I fear it's going to leave me with a huge stack of doubles.

I bought from D&A (not blaming them in the slightest) and would assume the two boxes were pulled from the same case. Should I bother opening the other 28 packs? I doubt UD would do anything anyway.

Thanks for any input

This years OPC was far better than the last two years. I opened a 2012-13 case and didn't pull a single card that ended in a 3 or an 8 (433, 438 as an example). The case of 2013-14 OPC was really heavy on 400 and 500 and short on less than 200.

2014-15 yielded 1 Complete masters set 1-600, four short of a second master set and what would of been two complete 1-500 sets if I would of gone that route.

This years had about four different collation "runs" if you will, where the cards inside each box were almost identical to one another. So if you received two of the identical runs, your boxes you will have lots of duplication.

No Upper Deck will not do anything because it is the luck of the draw.

UD tweeted back at me an hour ago to call Monday so I might have a case. I noticed as I opened the rest of the box that the only packs yielding new cards were the bottom left stack of packs inside the box. So 75% of the packs were complete doubles. To me that's a QC control issue.

Oh well, gonna call Monday and see what they say. I'd be pleased with 10-15 packs. Just something to get the bitter taste out of my mouth.

Congrats on getting a response. I sent them an email in 2012-13 and 2013-14, along with a tweet about the 2013-14 product without even getting a response. Personally I think I had more a QC complaint than you did, so good on you for getting a response.

Yea, that sounds definitely sounds worse than what I got and I'm surprised I got a reply back. It shouldn't be possible to not get a full set out of a case. Thankfully the rookies/legends weren't doubles just the base so it could have been worse for me. I also got a logo card and a group C auto in my two boxes. Those two cards alone will pay for a good chunk for my next box.

I just don't get why low end products have such bad collation. I remember my first 2 boxes of 10-11 Score had 14 of the 16 rookies be the same.

10-11 Panini product was the worst for collation. talk to those who opened 10-11 Certified case...same auto rcs and GU in the case. not only base :)

You can drop the 10-11 from your sentence and it would ring true. My case of 13-14 Rookie Anthology was missing 9 cards for one complete base set.

I had the same problem. I didn't buy a case but I have doubles of many autos like Jerome Samson being the worst offender.

When I got around to calling the number, the guy understood my issue and gave me an email to set up a claim. After emailing them they said that there's nothing they can do about doubles.

So I guess I'm calling again Monday just to ask why they wasted my time going through circles. It shouldn't be worth my time over a garbage product but meh, I have the day off.

Like I said previously, you just received two of the duplicate, well almost duplicate, box print runs. There is really nothing that UD should do in this situation. The hits are not "guaranteed" across any product, so why should the base be?

For the record, when I demonstrated major collation issues with OPC last year over 10 cases, UD did make things right. It took a LOT of work on my part with spreadsheets, recordkeeping, etc. but they did make things right. But with only a couple of boxes I wouldn't expect much.
