Don't you just hate it when.......

I just heard back from the seller. Unfortunately, they don't feel my offer of $250 is even close. I pointed out that most Cup shields are in that range or lower and UD always sells much stronger than Leaf/ITG. Oh well, one that I will never have the pleasure of owning I guess.
 
I dealt with that seller when he had a Scott Stevens Nameplate for sale. It was an auction instead of BIN, so your experience may be different. The original price was multiple hundreds of dollars, and it kept ending with no bids. I sent him a message and offered what I thought to be an incredibly fair deal ($150, I think). He declined and wished me good luck bidding, but wasn't rude about it. The good news is that after a number of months, he lowered the price of the auction. However, I felt it was *still* very high, but there was no other bidding activity, so I kept watching it. After a while, again, he lowered the auction price to $119, and at that point I got it as the only bid. I doubt he keeps track of all of the offers he gets, otherwise he probably would have offered it back to me at $150 instead of listing it for $119, but good for me! Hopefully, if you're patient, you'll have a similar experience. It played out over a year, year and a half.

I was recently in a similar situation and this what I ended up doing, not sure if the seller would go for it or not.
We agreed on a price that I was comfortable with and then on a ebay 15% off day, I sent 15% more than I was comfortable spending. I got the card for the price I wanted and he got 15% by working with me by agreeing to the deal on a sale day.
You guys may be too far apart for this work but it's worth a shot.

I tried the patient way on a Odjick 1/1 from ITGU, and somebody bought it a couple of months later for big $$$ (it sold for more than Gretzky/Orr/Howe similar ITGU cards, more in the range of the big vintage pieces).
 
That’s not far fetched - guys like Odjick don’t have a lot of high end, so when a nice one pops up, it may get big bucks.

I made a fair offer on the card, considering I'm pretty much aware of the high-end market on Odjick. I offered about X2 what I paid for the other Odjick 1/1 from the same collection and it got refused. About 2 months later, it went for about 2,5X what I paid for my 1/1. I spent about 1000$ on Odjick ITGU cards this year and felt stupid after. Leaf really overdid parallels in this product. /5/3/2/1 and /20/7/5/3/2/1+ /3 show card, only the color of the foil changing.

My point is that the patient way might work... or not. Someone else might be watching that card too and ready to pull the trigger higher than you or the usual market would.

I'm in similar situation (different seller) but nowhere near as high dollars as yours. I proposed a reasonable offer based on current sales but he declined. I know that it won't sell at current pricing so i'll just keep tabs on it.
 
Maybe a stupid question, collect what you like and all that, but why not buy like a GU jerseys for that price? That card doesn’t even have a picture of the player or a logo of the team. If you really want a shield of his wouldn’t a complete jersey scratch that itch? Suspect you have one or a few already but had to ask.

I love quirky cards and collections but that card baffles me.

Ps loved Freisen as a Pat, that boy could fly. Lifestyle seems to have caught up with him, legs went and he was done in his early 30s
 
Yea that's tough. I guess your only option is to wait it out and hopefully the price comes down. Unfortunately it's his card and he can charge whatever he wants so it puts you in a tough spot.

Got a gamer already, don't have a piece of cardboard with a shield. I'll wait it out and hopefully at some point he comes down to a price I feel is fair.
 
Darn, sorry to hear about this situation. I think we've all been there to some extent with sellers asking for the moon on some rare cards. Best of luck adding it your collection one day!

I'm still looking for the Enroth Superlative Shield as well from that same set.
 
Did you try asking him if he would trade for it?

Cujo from the same set is on ebay. It has a BIN/Best Offer higher than $250 but might come down. Its worth a shot.
 
I hear ya.. that sportcardheaven or some sh!t has the last 05 06 UD masterpiece yellow plate i need of Derek Morris and wants over 200 on ebay. its on comc 130 for a 15 to 20 dollar card if that i think i landed the other less than 12 iirc its been a long time since I have had them in my PC .. he can eat it and sh!t out metal slivers!
 
We should all offer around $150 on it, spam the seller with offers in that range. They might think $250 was a good offer and take it?
