There were a couple of auctions I was watching that had low starting prices, but no bids because of ridiculous shipping charges ($8.70 shipping for a 9.99 item). I decided to contact the seller to see if that was accurate or if it was a typo since the item would be staying within the US. I also asked about his policy for combining shipping charges on multiple auction wins. He replied back saying shipping would be $6.50 and he could send up to 3 cards for that price. Great!
I win two of his auctions for single cards (one for 9.99 and the other for 10.49), and when I go to pay the shipping information from the auction gets carried over to ebay. I do my normal "request total from seller" so it can be updated and I can pay. The seller updates the shipping charges to $9 each. :crazy:
I send another request with a message reminding him that he quoted me $6.50 before I bid on the auctions. He updates the shipping charges to $4.95 each. Better, but still not right. Another message goes out. Charges become $8 each. Another message and the charges become $4.95 and $8. Another message $11 each :curse:. Another one, back to $4.95 each. Another one $4.95 and $6.50. Yes, I know I gave him more than enough chances to get it right by this point, but this time I give him an ultimatum. He responds that he cannot lower shipping any further and relists the auctions.
Does anyone know if Delivery Confirmation, a $0.75 service, would be sufficient enough for Paypal should a dispute arise? If so I calculate postage to be $2.09. I know other things factor into shipping charges, but another $4.50 is not a reasonable amount. I was willing to pay it though, but not a cent more.
What should my course of action be? Leave him negative feedback and let that be the end of it. Report him for fee avoidance due to his high shipping charges (he has a card listed right now for $5.99 with shipping at $13.95)? Other suggestions? This has been going on for about a week now, and I'd appreciate any help I can get. I really would have liked the cards as I think I got them for pretty good prices, but I don't think that's going to happen.
