So I won this auction, not that much money, only .99 with 4.99 shipping.

Anyway the card arrives today in a bubblemailer and only a teambag, no case. The card is creased on both the front and back and theres no mention of it in the auction. The auction pic is also so tiny you cant tell if it was damaged before the seller sent it. Anyway I think due to the fact that it wasn't sent in any sort of case, that the damage is from that.

It is a pc item, but I was wondering what you would do in this situation.
Thanks.

heres some pics of the creases

If you want to come to some resolution, first step would be to contact the seller and see if you 2 can reach a happy medium. Maybe a partial refund? It's hard to talk much of a partial refund on a transaction that size, but its more about the principle of the whole thing. In the end he did a poor job of packaging it, which most likely resulted in the damage.

Honestly, since its for the PC and you got a pretty sweet deal IMO, I'd file it away in the PC and keep my eyes peeled for another copy. Not really a huge loss if you can't reach any resolution with the seller.

i dont really agree with what was said above its not about the value its the principle they sent it without a toploader its going to get wrecked u should get equal value in other stuff they have or a full refund they do it because they can get away with it. Dont let them get away with it

I guess you should try to talk to him. lol if I was collecting Staal I would probably want to refund you / buying it from you. That was really cheap..

yeah i would talk to him before filing with paypal for sure. He probably wont want the card back as the return shipping would cost him more than the card (re sell value) for him because its damaged. I think you would get a refund and the card depending on the seller

I've had more than a ton of PC items, many of a print run of 5 -- come damaged my way. As much as I hate dealing with creases, what I usually do is ask for a partial refund. I think to myself, if I were to buy a creased copy of this card, what would I pay for it? Then I take it up with the seller/trader and ask for a partial refund or compensation.

I know some people just don't deal with creased or otherwise damaged cards in their PC, so if you are in that boat, I'd offer to return it for a full refund. Whatever you do though, good luck in getting it resolved.

EDIT: BTW, $4.99 for shipping in the way that they shipped it to you  I'd be a little PO'd about that in itself.

start a paypal claim for item recieved not as described

Here's the only trouble with that sort of thing...most sellers will ask you to send back at your cost. PayPal will ask you to send back registered or insured to prove the item arrived back. Even in the States, where this is 1/3rd the cost of what it is here, he still ends up paying more for the item just for what could be a 99 cent refund.

My opinion is to attempt to work a resolution out, and at best, give him neutral feedback with low shipping item as described DSRs. If he offers you a full refund, maybe a positive feedback for his courteous nature, but low DSRs nevertheless.

For $5 shipping, the least he could do was buy a toploader that fits. That's unacceptable.

Oddly enough, I bet if his shipping was only $2, the card probably would've sold for $10+ since that's a really nice patch and all. The perception of profiting off shipping tends to drive prices down on eBay auctions. You can ask why, and you can counter with "$2 with $10 shipping and $10 with $2 shipping are the same thing" but if you watch things for long enough, you'll see a trend start to form overall.

I think that is the best opinion so far

Okay well heres an update, I took your advice and emailed the seller.
I told him the card was damaged, most likely due to the fact that it was mailed to me without being put in the case and asked how he would like to handle it.

Here is his exact response:
"Return the card, and I will refund the money for your winning bid. My auction does stipulate though, that I am not responsible for any postal lost or damage cards if insurance is not taken."

Just wow, I can't wait to neg him now. Not responsible for damage, even though he decided to not send the card in any sort of protective case whatsoever..

Tell him to pound sand - neg him and keep the card - in the end you got a decent card for your PC (a little dinged up but still a nice card) for $6 and for a nothing transaction to the seller he's going to end up with a negative.

Sometimes things happen in transit that neither party is really responsible for - this is not one of those times - as mentioned, for $5 the least he could do is find a way to secure the card properly.

Just received another mangled card today from seller rfletch1633n2. Card was shipped in a white envelope sandwiched between two toploaders. The seller only bothered to tape two sides of the toploaders so when the card arrived it was sticking out the side of the toploaders and bent in half.
The seller accused me of lying and said it was his standard shipping practice and he's never had an issue with it. What a jerk..
