Just a quick question. If I bid on an item, and my max bid is currently higher than the current bid, and the auction says reserve not met, does that mean my max bid wouldn't be high enough either or just my current bid?

Reserve is all about your current bid. I believe that if you bid to the reserve, it takes it straight to that amount. Otherwise, you are just the high bidder without meeting the reserve.

If the reserve was $100 and you bid $75, it would show you leading the auction at $75 with the reserve not met. If you bid $150, it would show you winning with a bid of $100 with the reserve met.

My question is why put a reserve at all, just set a BIN if you know what you want for the card.

It's not about what you want for the card it's about what the minimum you'll take for the card. On high end stuff there's time where a seller can have absolutely no idea what kind of BIN to list at but wants to protect his card.

Good point there :)

I've bid 300, but my leading bid is 200 something, and it says reserve not met. So does that mean 300 won't meet it either? If it did, wouldn't it just go to 300?

that's correct. current bid is the next increment above the 2nd highest bidder. max bid is your max bid. had your max bid hit the reserve, the bid will shoot straight to the reserve price. $300's not enough in this case.
