eBay Second Chance Offers

Does anyone find it kind of obvious shilling when you get a second chance offer the exact same day the auction ended because "the buyer couldn't complete the transaction as noted?" How do you know the buyer won't get back to you so soon? Seems pretty sad.

I mean, holy crap, try and make your shills a little less obvious. I am sure in some far off, remote galaxy somewhere, there lies a chance the offer could be legit, but I'm wagering the shiller/seller duo got greedy and killed all legit bids. The card in question was for - get this - an amonte stick/jersey they tried to bid higher and higher for every penny. Sad.

When I put up my 03/04 spa auto rookies up on ebay one member won a bunch of them and didn't pay so after 7 days I sent out second chance offers and only one person accepted. I found it kind of odd nobody else would have accepted but I guess they thought I was shilling. Sometimes the offers are legit like in my case.

Sold a basketball card last weekend. It was at the height of a playoff series, and it was the RC of one of the best players. It ended up selling for about 4x what it would have otherwise. Winning bidder, of course, gets NARUed about 3 hours after the auction ends. Sent a second chance offer and never got a response.

I am thinking of blocking the bidder who didn't accept the second chance offer. Why even bid in the first place if you don't want the card? That's just tacky and shady. I don't need that.

I disagree--I set snipes all the time and forget about them, usually spur of the moment "ooh, I like it" type of stuff. There are several times where I have not taken a 2nd Chance Offer since I had a chance to reconsider.

I agree. Not only that, once you get outbid, maybe you have decided to spend that money elsewhere? Second chance offers rarely get accepted. I know mine never have

I've had second chance offers extended to me before, and I have to say, if I don't win the auction, I accept it and move on. Whenever I've gotten second chance offers, they've tried to get more money out of me than what I offered. I refuse to pay a penny more than what I placed as my bid.

If I have two or three copies of a card and get an obscene price for it, I'll second chance it right away.
