Ebay Seller

Hello All,

I won 4 bids of Engrained Box Breaks last night on eBay. The seller posted the box break on you tube. I had Philly, Washington, Detroit & Boston. The auctions were over after I went to bed. When I awoke I saw that Philly had 2 hits. One was a Carter Hart RC Auto. Since I did not pay right away he cancelled the bids within 14 hours. In his auction it requires payment immediately or within 48 hours.

I opened a claim with eBay.

Questions;
Does eBay do anything and how long for the resolution?
Will they force the seller to accept payment for the bids?
Am I just wasting my time?

That's a tough one. I would think he would wait until all payments are received before breaking the boxes. Because what's stopping someone from not paying if they don't get a hit?

I feel that he hit a good card and does not want to let it go for the bid I won.

I do not want anyone to get skunked. He should wait till all parties pay. He cancelled within 12 hours of his break. I do not sit on eBay 24/7.

I have absolutely no idea what this means..???? . if a seller states payment in 48 hours... then Mark is 100% in the right... I feel the breaker got good cards and decided He wanted to keep them!!! Mark has been nothing but an upstanding member hereand has helped a few of us... multiple times... Best of luck Mark!!!!!!!!

This right here. Completely foolish to do a break before receiving money from all parties involved. Good luck getting the cards owed to you I think you should but with the way eBay works. :|

Are they an authorized UD group breaker? If so, you would have an avenue there. If not I would suggest sticking to the ones who are.

Best of luck Mark but it sounds like this seller isn’t one I would deal with.

You still should have paid when u won them.
Lock in your spots.
And please your not on ebay 24 hrs a day but come on, pay with ph app or whatever.

I pay within 30 mins when I win something.

As I mentioned before, it's a tough one. I've never bought into a break via ebay but I would assume standard etiquette is to be watching for the end time and pay within a few hours.

Sucks for the buyer but at the same time, I don't fault the seller for cancelling the transaction. I feel like they would have done it regardless of any hits.

It says clearly in the description to pay immediately after auction ends... Now if you read this and placed a bid, I would say he's in the right refunding you. It's not like this was a best offer that could end at any time... auction has a set ending time.

eBay has very specific rules on “immediate payment”. Doesn’t seem this listing follows that guideline...Their General rules are 48 hours payment... On auctions.. !!!!.. doesn’t matter what the seller description is.. “immediate payment” “require an extra $20 on all sales due to COVID-19” it still has to be in E-Bays rules.. if we are all deciding that we can all make up our own rules on these sites... .. I’m thinking I might make a rule that anyone posting on HI on thursdays has to send a $10 donation.. ..obviously.. I can’t just make up rules...As a member... I have to abide by the rules set by the site admin!!!! Anyway let’s see how EBay Decides!!!

I don't think the seller can ask for and enforce immediate payment as per eBay rules.

I thought eBay banned box and case break listings.

It would be easier to give an honest opinion if we could see what the sellers terms and conditions were on the auction itself.

If there is wording like “must pay immediately upon winning” or “must pay by this date or your spot will be forfeited” ....If there is wording like that in the auction, then the seller had the right to cancel....at least from how a box breaker/dealer normally does business.

All box breaks require the spots to fill, so no breaker is going to bust wax without their up-front costs being covered. Paying for your spots before box break time is an instrumental part of the process.
It sucks that you are SOL for what you would have won had the funds been paid, but I have to side with the seller here even though what you have described about them is a tad shady on their part.

Don’t hate me lol.....just my opinion with what has all been presented here for debate.

You and the seller are both skirting the rules of eBay and operating in a gray area. It's implied that your spot must be paid for before the break takes place. Generally sellers will wait for all completed payments before breaking but in this case the seller did not. If a seller is moving a ton of spots it is possible that they missed not receiving your payment.

If the auction description mentioned the date and time that the break would take place and you didn't pay until after the fact I believe that you have no claim to the hits. Personally if I were breaking and selling spots I wouldn't use eBay for this purpose at all but the seller decided to go that route. You can't reasonably expect to be entitled to your team's hits after the break takes place without prior payment. That is just opening up an entire can of worms of people not paying, waiting to see if they hit anything and then paying afterward.
