eBay Sold For $9 Billion

Good or bad for collectors?

Impossible to know now at this point. Change in ownership does not mean immediate change in operations, management, or policy.

So I'd say neither good nor bad. Probably won't be noticeable to us collectors for quite some time, if at all.

Don't believe this is a change in ownership. It appears that ebay is just selling off a segment of the company like they did with stubhub last year.

Well huh...I assumed they were referring to the their whole business as classified ads. Good to know thanks for the clarification. So won't effect their auctions listing business whatsoever.

Would eBay not be worth quite a lot more? Like a quarter of a trillion dollars. That's what I would think.

eBay's stock is worth about $50bn. They only sold off their classified ads portion of the business. I have no idea what that is though.

I'd never heard of the classified ads portion of their business prior to this, though I'd used a couple of their sites as apparently Kijiji is part of it, as well as Gumtree in Australia/UK.
