we are in the process of working out the details of moving to edmonton and i am just curious as to what the opinions are on what the first spots worth visiting are, where the best parts of the city is to look for houses and also are there any good flea markets, card shows, shops, etc.
I have never really got to spend much time there so I dont know much about the city yet, I have never even been to west edmonton mall. lol.
should be fun

There's a few Edmontonians on here that should be able to help you out. I'll do my best on a few:

Starting with the cards, we could go into a bunch of detail on the shops but I'll save that. I like to shop at Wayne's. Right beside WEM and by far the nicest shop in town. Recently that's where I pick up my wax as well. Have shopped at West's before (by Rexall) and have got decent deals at times but don't care for their store and customer service is lacking if you're not face to face (they've lost my number several times which isn't surprising if you see their store). Basically, IMO, those are the only shops worth mentioning.
I go to the 'Super Flea Market' almost every weekend but that's just to get new DVD's cheap as there's not much to see there card-wise.
As for card shows, there's one twice a month in Westmount Centre. Check out Brian's post in the general hockey area forum for show dates/details. Pretty good turnout and I'm even thinking of setting up :)

Now as for places to look for houses, I've lived here all my 26ish years and I only really like the South Side....but that's because I live here. North Siders with disagree. Can't remember the name of the area (Gold Bar??) but if I was buying a house here right now I'd look around 50th street just on the south side of the river (North of Capilano Mall). Drove through there recently and really like the area.

Anyways, all I can think of right now. I'm sure someone else will chime in with some other opinions.

Being another Edmontonian here on the 'Board!' :D I'll have to agree with Shaun in regards to the two shops. Wayne's # 1 & West's a far # 2. ;)

It will all depend upon where in which you're going to be working! That is if you still have to work! ;)

I live in the North End of the city. I'm close to the LRT for downtown travel, the bus goes right past my house to the LRT station. About 10 minutes by ETS bus.

Anyways, whatever you decide to do? We'll be available to help ya out with first hand info!

For the shows here in town! I'll direct your attention to this site: CDN Show Listings

For Fleamarket. The one I frequent the most is the Highlands Fleamarket. 118 Ave & 66 St. They have three to four people that do cards. Albeit only two of consequence. Jim (scrufy1) & Tom ('The Rippin' Machine!') Not his user name! BTW!

The other market at 112 Ave & 120 St., 'The Superflea!' has one fellow of consequence (Jack) and a couple of other vendors who dabble.

All the best

Brian
