email from Dave and Adams card world...enjoy, or not.

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected by Upper Deck to be one of only a few Authorized Internet Retailers in the United States.

Unfortunately, this agreement dramatically changes who we can sell to:
• We can no longer sell to Canada until the product has been out for a full year
• We can no longer sell to stores or re-sellers until the product has been out 90 days

Upper Deck has also made some changes that make it vital for customers to purchase their product from Authorized Retailers. In the unlikely event there is a product issue with your box or case (damages, collations, missing cards, etc...) Upper Deck Customer Care will be able to assist you. If you purchase new Upper Deck product from a non-authorized re-seller Upper Deck will likely not be able to assist. Additionally, if you need help with redemptions and purchased from an Authorized Retailer you will get enhanced customer support.
For collectors and box breakers there has never been a better time to buy new Upper Deck products from us!
Important: In the event that you purchase a box from us and attempt to re-sell it within 90 days of the product's release date, it is highly likely this will be found out by the Upper Deck Hobby Enforcement Team. If the box is tracked back to you as the seller, Upper Deck will be providing Authorized Retailers with a Do Not Sell list, meaning you will not be able to acquire Upper Deck product in the future.
If you are interested in purchasing new Upper Deck product from us your intent must be to open the product, not to re-sell the boxes.

Thank You,

I've been warned that prices of product will go up - guess maybe there right this time

At the same time it is good for the LCS

I am sure D&A feel the same way as all the above...not good for business in any aspect except maybe the LCSs

I don't bust product but this seems like it should be awarded "Hobby Boner of the Year".

what is the first product to be hit with this? When UD sells like 10% of product, will we see a reversal within days?

"Upper Deck Hobby Enforcement Team"........LOL....is this the same "team" that allows "patch-faking" to continue unabated?

This will drive the prices up and keep valuations high.

In the short term this seems like a kick in the junk to lots of people, but i truly believe it is a good move for the longterm value of cards.

I see single prices on cards going up due to the fact that a lot more boxes are going to sit around unopened now

This will help the few who are awarded this status up here in Canada. I have heard that five contracts were being offered to Canadian dealers. This removes the competition from those five and allows the distributors to bend everyone over the table.

Lucky for me, I live in Toronto so if I'm that needy to buy from DACW, I can make the drive down. Carpool, anyone?

Actually, there's an idea...a bunch of us heading to DACW for some box breaks.

This has been debated ad nauseum.

The Brick & Mortars are sure this will help them.
The case crackers are sure they will be done.
The average customer is pretty sure that it will hit their wallet.

You can't convince anyone to think about anything but thier stance.

Funny even Dr Price had an opinion on his blog....... and it may surprise you.

As to when it starts - it is already being taken advantage of by the LCS's in my area.
They have raised all of the prices for new products coming out starting with SP Authentic. Funny - it is already over SRP pricing?????

• We can no longer sell to Canada until the product has been out for a full year......there goes like half of their sales.

are you kidding me? baseball wax outsells hockey wax by a huge margin. hockey is by far not even close to half their sales. they'll do fine.

This is the truth... I took a look at pricing on the 'first' product this affects, 2011 UD Football, the other day...

Distributor Price - $72-73 /box ($870 /case)
Dave & Adam's Online - $96/box ($1100 /case)
Pittsburgh Sports Online - $90/box ($1020 /case)

Based on other product pricing, this would normally be an $80-85 /box product online.

I agree with Dr. Price's assessment. I'm just not convinced that UD (or Panini's) understanding of economics are quite what they think they are...

[Note: I did get a note from the distributor the other day, though. Apparently, Panini has thrown UD under the bus for the rest of the hockey season and they are delaying their version of MAPP/B&M-Only until August. Maybe they do understand economics after all...]

The prices in store are always higher (and in some cases, far higher) than their website.
