Erik Karlsson Traded to the Sharks!

For a GM to get roasted twice in the same year by the same trade partner is insane. Let's go Sharks!!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me...

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 3rd time. Somehow Wilson is going to get a piece of Stone or Duchene.

Forgot about this. What was involved in this deal? I can't remember. Yea that may be a top 5 pick. Pretty ****ty to be a bad team and NOT have that pick.

That was part of the Duchene/Turris three team trade. Ottawa got to choose whether to send their 2018 first round pick (4th overall: Brady Tkachuk), or send next years unprotected first round pick to Colorado.

Pretty much sums up how I feel except I completely disagree on Dorion. He's just as guilty as Melnyk on this. He was given a 3 year extension in the spring after a gong show of a season. Why? Because he agreed to do all this. He knew damn well this would cripple this franchise but he chose the money over his own integrity. Screw both of them. I hope Melnyk is forced to sell soon because this sh*t show can't continue.

True... he's an enabler. I think Murray was able to push back a bit and keep the players happy-ish.

News today... Sens replaced Randy Lee, assistant GM. With some labour lawyer... yet another sign of money troubles. He's going to piss agents off with his penny-pinching... I sense a long, long dry spell of skirting around the salary cap minimum. Ottawa Senators... Arizona Coyotes of the North.

from TSN...
"The 44-year-old lawyer joins the club following a stint as a labour and employment partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP in the nation's capital. MacTavish has also worked with CAA Hockey, where he assisted with player recruitment, player management and contract negotiations."

This is not an unusual hire for a team. It would be borderline reckless to not have someone well versed in contract law in their front office. I'm sure the money crunch in Ottawa is real, but I don't believe that this particular hire is another sign of that. However, Melnyk has earned zero benefit of the doubt from the fanbase.

Yes, if they have no one else, you need someone true. Not sure if Treliving has that experience in Calgary... pretty sure Craig Conroy doesn't. You need someone on staff, but in the GM or Asst. GM position? I could be easily wrong, but hopefully it isn't to make sure they can cut every corner and take advantage of any players or agents and then the team becomes poison to any FA's.
