Explain to me UFA and trading for their rights?

I believe it was only for the last year of the CBA which is next year - or may have been at their option once during the CBA.

That would be because Knuble will be moving back to Grand Rapids Michigan when he retires. He was born here - just is building/redoing a new home and starteed a new business with some friendws that he is an active participant in.

If Hossa jumps the Wings - I would not be suprised one bit if Detroit does not court Knuble. And he would entertain a hometown discount to play with the Wings.

I'll give you the Wings, as I know they're his hometown and first team. But I'm talking about the other 28 teams in the league.

Given his steady production of goals over the past 6 NHL seasons - would be very surprised if Knuble was not offered $6.5M to $7.5M on a 2 year deal. even with his injuries he still produced at a high level. While hometeam discounta are nice - I have a feeling he , like others nearing the end, want a real shot at the Silver Chalice.

He might stay in Philly at a nice figure - but I think he would stay there for a nice payday and consider moving to atop 6 contender at a reduced rate. Not to offend - but I do not really think that the Flyers are really a top 8 or 10 team as they are now put together.

Well, 1 year removed from the ECF and a 6-game loss to the SC Champs in a year where their top setup man is out 80% isn't too shabby, but whatever. As for Knuble, why would the Wings want a PP garbage man when they've got Holmstrom?

Bruce,

I'm not really a Flyers fan, but they did come 5th in the eastern conference last year (tied for 4th with the Stanley Cup champions actually) with a better (by one) goal differential and better PP and PK. I think they are a top 8/10 team depending on moves they and other teams in the league make. The biggest problem for them is that they are so hamstrung by salary.

They are listed on nhlscap.com at 49.9 already with no goalie included in the numbers, likely needing another forward and 2 d-men to put a full team together.
