Both of my girls have always hated when I take them to the card store, they have never understood the joy of ripping packs or being able to chat with either the shop owner or a fellow collector about the card board that we all love so dearly. Well this year that all changed for me my oldest daughter Paige who is 13 actually accepted my offer to take her to the expo to see what it was all about. As we walked around I could see the amazement in her eyes looking at row after row of cards then moving on to the available boxes to buy and still further onto game used equipment and the signed sticks, jerseys and 8x10's.

To my amazement she was actually happy to be there (I was constantly checking) and couldn't wait to get her hands on a box of series 1 to rip open at the UD booth. Thankfully her mom was willing to wait until we got to rip our boxes before she was wisked away to go shopping while I was able to hide what I actually spent today:dance:.

I actually got the shock of a life time when they picked me up and told me that she would have rather stayed with me and that she didn't have any fun shopping. She was quite pleased that most of the booth owners spoke with her and asked how she was enjoying the expo and thought that it was fantastic when Barry from UD chatted with her during her break making sure she was having plenty of fun.

I may go missing now..i'll end up in a hole out back since im sure the wife is not impressed with the idea of two card junkies in the house:D

What a great story!

And Scott, I just read the latest Beckett today, so how appropriate that I now reply after your post.

You're in Collingwood so not that far from The Icebox. Take your wife and daughter to the Kozlov Centre and see which store your daughter has more fun at. ;) Oh, and Toronto ain't that far away... hey, I go to Blue Mountain any chance I get :P... women and children get in Free at The Toronto Card Show! ;)

Great story...it seemed to pick up in the past, but one thing the hobby is missing is girls who collect. I've always thought it cool to see females who are into the hobby. Hopefully your daughter finds something or someone she can collect and go from there. It would definitely spike the amount of time father and daughter get to hang out together.

I am actually planning on a trip to the Toronto card show soon... I have heard alot of great things about it and can't wait to finally get there. I actually pop into the Icebox every now and again and see Wayne who is a great guy with some amazing things in the store. I'd like both of my daughters to pick a player and start a nice collection... the most fun is in the chase.
