Thank you to member C55 for bringing this to my attention:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/142315693496

I used to own this card and it is still listed on my very outdated trade page. When I owned it the card had a 1 colour white swatch, not the spectacular swatch it now contains. Be aware of this if you are interested in bidding. Again, the credit for this discovery goes to C55 but as the previous owner I can verify the patch is swapped.

Excellent catch...thought it looked a little fishy...do you have a pic of the original?

I don't anymore but I specifically remember the card as it is the only Cup Getzlaf RC I've ever owned and I specifically always avoided the supernice patches because I was scared of fakes.

Thanks for posting - I was going to ask if I could share

Looks like there are several fakes listed by PWCC (Malkin, Bjugstad, Andersen)

Sounds like PWCC needs to do more research/QR when it comes to accepting cards with patches. I understand that it is difficult to scrutinize every single card but at a certain point their customers will become wary of these cards, especially since PWCC auctions usually command a premium over other auctions.

PWCC sells thousands of cards each month, it would be extremely expensive and unrealistic to have a person dedicated to verifying the authenticity of every card they receive from consignors. I've been on the receiving end of an altered card purchased from them and still wouldn't expect them to research every card, especially modern cards which are altered every day unfortunately.

All anyone can expect from them is if it's proven a card is altered or fake, they refund the buyer in full.

Re: Malkin, is that the #33/99 Cup BGS 8.5 ARP? I've seen enough of those and it looked suspect.

You'd think UD could do something about this. I sure there could be a way if you attempt to alter, have something tear a hole right through the card...maybe having plastic covering the card....if the BGS card is in fact fake that's a problem since BGS is trusted

Yes

Or they could just take a picture of all /99 Cup Rookies.....

What a joke this whole GU thing is. Unless you pull the card yourself, have video evidence or the company takes pictures you cannot trust that anything is out there anymore. Add to the fact that GU can be easily mixed up with event or game issued and it makes me glad I sold off almost all of my "GU" cards years ago.

Hope that PWCC will pull these auctions but I am guessing it is money out of their pocket for the folks that win and do not know the patches are fake.
