I haven't been around in a while and just wanted to give a heads up to those who may not have seen it yet.

I was looking through my daily search of game worn stuff on eBay and came across a "game worn" Malkin Winter Classic jersey for a really low price.

The pictures looked a little off, but it had the MeiGray tag on it so I assumed everything was OK. After a closer review of the listing, I saw that there was no CoA or anything like that included, so I decided to give MeiGray a call.

Turns out, they're using the same fake serial number on quite a few fake jerseys. I asked the woman at MeiGray about the number, she said "oh, that's a fake Crosby". I told her it was a Malkin jersey and she said that they were using the tag for a bunch of different players.

I know most of the game worn vets in here wouldn't get fooled by it, but I just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention.

Here's the auction in question: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261185317130?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Cheers!

I have a crosby winter classic with a fake MEI gray tag on it
If you look close it says
MEI Gray Groop
Its still better quality than the asian knock offs

These are part of those batches of $50 Knockoff jerseys that came out of the original allocation from Asia. They had Crosby and Malkin Winter Classic jerseys, and all of them had those tags on them.

Majority of the time, the fakers don't actually know what they're faking and are just trying to mimic what they see in pictures. They probably saw a picture of the real gamer and thought a GU tag went on every jersey. The whole idea of "Groop" is probably them just trying to minimize copyright infringement (what's the point by then? You're already in deep enough) like how they flip the shields and such.

I had a really curious chat with a jersey faker once, and asked him about a specific jersey, and he said in broken English that "If we don't make a jersey, send me a picture, and I will have one made for you exactly that way in the picture." ....so yeah. Wouldn't surprise me that one person sent them the picture of the actual gamer itself, and 100000 jerseys have been built off those images
