What's up with having the Expo ramp up on Remembrance/Memorial Day?

IMO, that is just rude. I'm aware to some people that this is just another day off from work in Canada. But come on. Show some respect, for the veterans that allow us to participate in this great Hobby!

I agree with you partially Brian. However, I was at the last Fall Expo and I believe Remembrance Day fell on the Thursday prior, and a few of the autograph signers were also veterans. Due to the two coinciding there were a number of features on them beforehand on TSN and whatnot detailing their service to our country, and I know for a fact they had many "thank you's" during their signing session. I thought it was a very fitting and timely.

The 2001, Remembrance day fell smack dab in the middle of Expo. Al Sinclair requested the minute of silence at 11:11, and it worked very well.

The ensuing minute or two had the same conversation going on throughout the room - Canucks explaining to non-Canucks (mostly Americans) what had just happened. Some Americans know about the tradition, some don't. One of those little things that separate the two nations.

Usually the ceremonies and parades for Veterans Day are held in the morning. On Friday Expo doesn't open til 1:00. Seems ok to me.

I think that it is inappropriate but I suppose if it is handled respectfully as Q mentioned above, it's passible I guess.

I remember hearing the story Q mentioned, and it turned into a good thing as people participated and Americans learned about it.
Doesn't start on Friday till later in the day,

and it's a day off work??
I always had to go to school.

I agree with the general sentiment. Having the Expo on Remembrance day is not a lot different than working on that day. A lot of people (myself included) take the moment of silence quite seriously.
I was at the show too, and was very impressed with the level of respect shown. No fear of the hobby not being classy enough

I hope they announce it over the intercom so that people can keep quiet for that one minute. Glad they still honor that minute.
