Famous Fabrics Ink - Hockey Edition

Believe it or not, my biggest beef with this product is not the lineup or the fact that there are no player pictures on them...it's the back of the cards! You get the same card back on every card that read:
"You have received a subset name card from Famous Fabrics Ink Hockey Edition. On the front of this card is an authentic cut signature of the player named on the Famous Fabrics gold tag. The authenticity of this cut signature is guaranteed by Famous Fabrics, Inc. Enjoy your piece of hockey history."

I have 3 issues with this card back...first, to not put the player's name on the card back comes off as cutting corners (especially since the player name is also missing from the front). Second, by saying that it is a cut auto of the player on the gold tag the card would lose its authenticity should it ever become separated from the slab. Lastly, and my biggest issue, they are not all cut autos! This may come down to semantics, but to me a sticker that the player signed does not qualify as a "cut" auto. I'm not a huge fan of sticker autos in the first place, but if you are going to stick them in a $100/pack (minimum) product, at least don't try to pass them off as cuts!

All the cards in the set are 1 of 1's and there are 2400 cards in the set. Out of 2400 people there are bound to be some Adam Footes, but there are lots of great deceased guys waiting to be pulled.

Yea, but what are the odds that anyone, anywhere, EVER, will want to buy an Adam Foote cut signature even to place it in a more pleasing design? What are the odds anyone will want to buy one for 10$?

Not to be mean but I'm sure you wouldn't pay 60$ not even 40$ for it Bruce and the guy who pulled it bought the pack for 100$. I t doesn't make much sense to spend that much to get so little.

I love ITG products and what Dr Price has done with the vintage players you can tell when you look at my PC with all the Habs card I own . But lately they seem to put not a lot of effort in some of the design of some products. I tottally agree when Stephen said the 500 goal combos and the rivalry are good examples of lame designs by ITG Ultimate. I know they don't have their license but they still can use great pictures like they did in previous release of ITG Ultimate.
To end it all, cut signatures of guys that are still alive is something that shouldn't be done.
 
Well, I took a chance on it this last weekend and got a PC player, Mario Lemieux. I am very, very happy. I will be posting a scan once I get my new scanner hooked up, or can find someone with a digital camera to take a pic.
 
I have no idea why this isn't a $15-$20 a pack product. It's unlicensed garbage with no pictures, lousy players, and the average HIer with photoshop could do better designs.

It's a legitimate 1/1 card in my books, so yes, I would pay $40+ for it. I understand someone else pulling the card and being disappointed, especially at $100/pack, but that's the thing with box breaking... it's a roll of the dice. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

What's wrong with pulling Rogie?? I live on the opposite coast from where he made his career, and I could sell/trade that in less than 3 calls. Maybe I don't get my pack price back (but how often does anyone anymore?) but

A - I wouldn't mind a vintage great like Rogie

B - I can easily trade that for something else

I know what you are saying, there are going to be alot of dogs out there, but there are also alot of great signers with fanbases out there NOT named Crosby, Ovi, or Gretzky...

The answer isn't straight forward... it's a personal decision on what's considered legitimate and not. I look at any card done by a manufacturer with experience in the hobby and with a stable of athletes involved with them, as legitimate, i.e. Topps, UD, Panini, Press Pass, ITG, etc. My viewpoint on the matter.

Why can't people discuss without attacking??

The odds are no worse than the overpriced, overproduced, and underwhelming stuff being released by those other, fully licensed companies..

I don't mind not getting the full money back, you always never get your price back and I have no problem with taht. I compare pack and box breaking to a lottery where you don't lose everything. But a 1 card pack is really risky.

I was happy to throw my $105.00 per pack down in order to get them

Will I get my money back? No I never do!
Why? because Im a collector, a hobbyist, a pack rat , who holds on to what they get or trades it for something they want.

Are the odds against me to pull a void filler in my HOfer collection? Yes.

Will I have the opportunity to get a void filler out of any other UD/Panini product ? NO

so if a cycle is circular you can follow my line of reasoning as to why I purchased this product.

It presents an opportunity!

I happen to enjoy the razor Cut products, value driven or not. I have bought at least a case of every single release. I have garnered 12 Cut autos of US presidents, 9 Cut autos of Astronauts who flew to the moon. 99 different Hall of Famers including Muhammad Ali, Maurice Richard, Wilt Chamberlain, Sam Rice and Bulldog Turner (just to name one from each sport). More deceased celebrities than you can shake a stick at like Lucille Ball, Jimmy Stewart, Janet leigh, and such. To me as a Hobbyist, Razor has filled a void that no other single company has come close to touching. yes the lack of Photos make them less eye-appealing but Im not buying them for the pictures!

In summation I think famous Fabrics and razor both have their own appeal in that you are not laden with a bunch of useless cardboard cluttering boxes like a common break of Panini or UD. Its a one and done for the same price youd pay to break a box of either of those companies mid end product and I feel that I get the same reward vs risk from razor / famous fabrics as I do with those common releases!
