Favorite set you've built that's non-auto, non-memorabilia?

I have fun memories of building my first set ever, 1992-93 Parkhurst base set. For some reason, I liked 1991-92 OPC very much too (didn't eat the gums, though). Also, the 1993-94 Parkurst Emeralds are some of the best looking parallels, but never got around building the set.

Now I'm trying to finish the Ultra eX Hockey inserts from 08-09 and 09-10. Just love them.

Mine was the 02-03 Titanium RED /299 set plus all the inserts. I completed that twice as I ended up trading the first set, which I immediately regretted so I set out and did it again!

almost forgot about the 97-98 Zenith Gold Z team set. Only an 18 card insert set, but a great little set that I should get displayed.

Wow, looking at your limited wantlist for that set, that's quite impressive, hope to see it when it's all done! Have you tried shopping in the Beckett Marketplace? I see about a half dozen of the cards you're looking for over there, most for just a few bucks.

I haven't recently, actually. When I have, all I see is Burbank stuff, who prices everything basically at BV or higher. I shall check again. Thanks!

Beautiful - one of my favorite all-time parallel sets!

My collection revolves around RC, base and parallels from certain players. So I'd love to get into a fairly tough, but still possible insert set. No auto, no mem. And no retired players - only current. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Myles

My fave middle skool set is Pinnacle's Nifty Fifty. Easy set to make by today's standards...so I want to make it only by opening old pinnacle boxes, lol.

Some day I'd like to go back and pick up all of the singles of UD BD Run For The Cup.

Be very careful when trying to do this. The cards from the older packs 1993-1997 have the gloss on them that make the cards stick together.

My favorite set was 2003-04 Topps Pristine Refractors with 130 of them being limited to 59 copies it was a pain in the but to complete especially since the commons out of 59 were not listed on Ebay.

I paid $20.00 for the Knuble to complete the set.

I'd really like to put together the titanium /99 set from this year. that would be a really cool one in my eyes. I think they are real sharp.

I put togather the 03/04 Parkhurst set with all the Rookies out of 500, took awhile but had fun doing it, also have done the 11/12 Artfacts set with all the numbered cards, rookie redemtions included. That was fun to build.

I love the Ultra eX set! I plan on buying so
Ultra boxes soon even though the redemptions are all expired already.

Hey guys n gals, if your set is completed and you had a tough set killer card, post it! (the image)

I'm posting on my phone so I can't post an image but for me it was the 05/06 Trilogy Frozen In Time Miikka Kiprusoff.

My favorite and most memorable set that I built was the 97/98 Donruss Preferred set with bronze, silver, gold, platinum and the 97/98 Donruss Preferred Line of the Times set. I built the set with my Dad when the product first came out, it was the first set I had ever completed and I just remember how fun it was collecting a set with my Dad.

I have to agree with the OP that I think if the hobby were more focused on set building these days that the hobby would be better off.

I have the Kovalchuk of this set. These cards are super tough to get since they made so much of this product (basically each Rainbow card is as rare as a /99 RC, which is not even one per case for any /99 RC) and they are gorgeous to behold in person...maybe the nicest "spectrum/rainbow" style parallel.

96/97 Flair Master Set - took about 6 years to get all the Blue Ice and I was down to the last card needed, Now and Then Gretzky/Messier/Gartner, for about a year before I finally got a hook up from a dealer in NY. Finishing that set was huge!

No question - UD Masterpieces. The set is by far the most beautiful product ever released and the history on the card backs is insane.

For inserts, I'm still working on 94-95 SP Premier (slowly), just another perfectly designed series.

Love that SP set. Are you going to do the due cuts too?

I love opening SPA because the base reminds me of that SP Premier set.
