I'd like a little advice on leaving feedback for a recent transaction of mine on another site... Here's the story...

I came across a sale thread with several nice Red Wings cards in it. All cards were priced and prices 'included shipping' per the poster's note. I PM'd the other collector and asked for a dlvd price on all 8 cards. He came back with a price which was ~$10 less than the sum of all 8 cards, little disappointed since the combined shipping alone would've saved him quite a bit. The number was also a little higher than I wanted to pay for a couple of them. I passed and asked if he would take a slightly lower price on two items ($40 for two cards listed at $20 dlvd and $25 dlvd). He agreed, sent paypal info and asked me to post (July 25). I posted and sent payment (7/26). I PM'd to ask him to accept the trade (7/28) which he did. He is also in the States, so I expected to receive the cards by 8/2 (7 days after payment). I PM'd to ask if they had been shipped on 8/6 (11 days after payment) - no response. The trade was marked 'shipped' on 8/9 (14 days after payment). Based on an 8/9 ship date, I should receive between 8/12 and 8/15 (17-20 days after payment). I point out the days after payment because the trading site 'requires' shipment within 3 days of receiving payment which would have been 7/28 or 7/29 meaning I should have received my cards 2 weeks ago. The trader has been active on those boards with posts, other trades, and other sales over the same time period.

Now, I know most people say "If the cards arrive is good condition, it's positive feedback." This isn't eBay where DSRs are available. So, is forum feedback handled any differently? What actually warrants neutral or negative feedback? Does a trader get a pass for behavior which is in clear violation of the forum 'rules' (i.e. shipping 2 weeks after required)?

I'm obviously frustrated and don't want to neg someone 'just cause', but no communication from a guy on the boards every day and no shipment for 2 full weeks just comes across as ignorant.

Opinions?

(Mods, I put this hear because this is where I spend the bulk of my time. If you feel moving to another area is more appropriate, please feel free.)

Assuming the cards arrive in good condition, neutral. Being active on the site and not communicating for that long a period of time is not acceptable, especially with a sale pending.

If the cards arrive in good condition I would give him positive feedback with a note saying slow shipping.

Sometimes I think people get too hung up on shipping time. An extra 5-7 days IMO isn't a big deal, life is busy sometimes and things happen. In this case I would leave a positive and move on. However it is your transaction and it is up to you how you want to process the feedback. 14 days is a little much and worth mentioning but as I get older I tend to be a little more relaxed lol. As long as the cards arrive withing 30 days I am cool with it.

Neutral, ratings should be based on more than just the condition of the cards. I would agree to a positive rating if the member had advised you of a delay due to circumstances. Positive ratings should be earned based upon total satisfaction and adherence to the rules.

Hey. PM one of us mods to take this further down the line. I don't see an issue leaving this here unless another mod feels differently.

However if this thread turns into a confrontation thread, I will move it accordingly.

I generally agree with you, but I think the fact of the matter is an overall lack of communication by the other member. He had been active on the forum, but would not respond to PM's asking after a sent date.

I would suggest possibly sending a message to one of the forum moderators on that site and asking their advice. Perhaps they can figure out a better way to deal with it.

Like Ameet suggested.... drop one of the mods on that site a line.

As far as what I think about shipping times: Generally I leave positive if I get the card in good shape..... but if you're going to be slow shipping, be honest about it. I generally don't buy to flip, so the timing of receiving that card isn't a huge deal. It's something I'm looking for, I've paid for it, I know I'm going to get it. There is no reason someone should be waiting two weeks to ship a card out though. 3 days is plenty of time.

Do things come up? Yes. It happens, and I don't think anyone should be too riled up over having to wait an extra week or two to get their hockey cards - but as the slow shipper, you had better be honest about it, communicate, and the ignoring thing that you talk about: That's what's frustrating about it.

Someone got sick, and you had to ignore your mailing for a couple of weeks? You went on vacation, and forgot to mail things out before leaving? That doesn't bother me, not even a little bit, but tell me.

If someone isn't going to ship for a week, then they shouldn't be asking for payment immediately...neutral at best.

I don't expect shipping within 24 hours, but that much of a delay is unreasonable without an explanation or even a cursory contact.

With all due respect, feedback should be based on your overall experience and the other trader's adherence to the rules. There is no reason to consult a moderator. Feedback is our only tool to encourage members to maintain the HI standards.

^^THIS^^

If the seller had replied to you with a reason for the delay then he'd deserve a positive. In this case, he ignored your PMs and was still active on the boards. That shows a lack of respect. Future potential buyers need to know

Contact the staff of the site immediately in situations like this, always.

Posting a "what should I do?" thread doesn't get anything done - if you want action and results, the staff of trading sites exist for this purpose.

When any member wants to be a jerk, whether it is an unwelcome response or no response to your PMs, the ignore feature works extremely well. It is non-confrontational and ensures that you won't have to deal with them again.

I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions and opinions. They were extremely helpful and I think I've determined my path forward once I receive the cards.

I understand your point and I posted this thread, not as a call to action, but rather to gain perspective on how other use transaction feedback.

As I discussed with a moderator from the other site, I paid through non-gift Paypal and transacted per the rules of the trading site I was using. I was never in fear of being 'out' anything. But should I leave positive feedback for another trader because I did everything I could to protect myself? Maybe, I could have asked my question a little differently and said - is every completed transaction 'positive'? I don't feel like that is a fair assessment.

And for those that mentioned it, additional shipping time isn't really a big deal for me. Being treated with a lack of respect is.

Again, thanks to all for the help. The mods can feel free to close the thread unless further discussion can help others. Thank you. -Jim...

If its not too late...Rules are mean to keep everything running smoothly. That being said, if the other trader had been in contact with you then for sure id leave positive feedback. To just ignore you does show a lack of respect.

Patterns are important, noting it in the feedback is important so the mods and other members who are considering a transaction with the member can get an accurate feedback on that member. Being late once is fine but a pattern of it will not be tolerated by the mods.

Sorry I thought you had already received your card when I first responded. IMO communication is the most important part of a healthy transaction. Not responding to an outstanding "late" card isn't acceptable.
