We'll get to the whole reason for this show and tell later on but let's get this kicked off with a few additions to my 99/00 UD MVP SCE Souvenirs set (I'm just looking to finish the set but might upgrade the swatches later):
And now for a Top 5 Derek Roy style.
I don't really do much of the new Roy stuff because Panini and Upper Deck have broken my spirit as a player collector. I do, however, grab stuff that appeals to me and this was one of the items to fall under that branch.
#5 -- 11/12 SPx Winning Materials Patch
This one is a rarity. Roy doesn't appear in Team Canada garb very much and not only that, he has never signed for Upper Deck. So seeing him in this OPC Update set with the red and white and a signature? Sign me up. The prices started out a bit high but I was patient (hey, it happens for me once in awhile) and grabbed it for under $10.
#4 -- 11/12 OPC Update Team Canada Signatures
Now for the top three. These all came from the same seller and I've been searching for them for years. I've never seen #2 or #3 before and couldn't hit the BIN fast enough on this one.
#3 -- 03/04 Parkhurst Rookie Jersey Gold /10
This one was actually listed at auction and I got it for under $10. Not bad considering I was willing to throw $60 at it!
#2 -- 03/04 Parkhurst Road to the NHL Emblem /9
The number one star I've actually seen a copy of before. It belongs to a member here on HI who'd completed the set (and most of the sets from that year's Ultimate Memorabilia). I'd inquired about prying this one away from him but we couldn't agree on a price. When the seller listed this with a BIN, I literally gasped and hit the BIN. I can't remember the last time I had a thrill nabbing a Roy card but these rookie year releases are crazy tough to find.
