Verified Trader,
I figured I'd show my latest pick ups from the end of 2018 to mid January. As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 14 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase
. Here are my latest acquisitions, be prepared for some long forgotten throw-back names.
2005-06 Victory Gold /100:
I recently began picking these cards up since they are fairly inexpensive and abundant. I believe a full print run of the gold parallel cards would look amazing.
2005-06 MVP Gold /100:
I began picking these up for the same reason as the aforementioned victory golds, cheap and abundant while carrying a sharp design. It also helps my chances of completing the set given that I already own the Ovechkin and Crosby rookies
.
2005-06 UD Game Jersey Rick Nash
I purchased this card a few days prior to his retirement announcement. It's becoming a very short list of multicolored jersey cards from the 05-06 UD Game series that I do not own of which I know exists. So I was happy to add the Nash to the fold.
2005-06 Fleer Ultra Rookie Uniformity Patch Jay McClement /35
I'm slowly chipping away at this set, really love the design on this set. Thanks for the trade debtriddin!
2005-06 The Cup Steve Bernier Printing Plate Yellow 1/1
While not the flashiest 1/1 card out there, I don't mind picking up printing plates when the price is right.
2005-06 Hot Prospects Max Talbot RC /349
I picked up the Talbot rookie due to the vibrant 3-colour patch. Very sharp card in person.
2005-06 Hot Prospects Christoph Schubert RC /5
These cards can be tough find, given that there are only 5 copies of each rookie out there, so I was pretty happy to add this one to my collection.
2005-06 UD NHL Generations dual Fedorov-Datsyuk
I was very excited when I won this card on ebay a few weeks back. As any collector with a PC featuring a European born star knows, prices can reach unpredictably high prices due to fierce competition. Both Fedorov and Datsyuk are no exception to this rule. What caught my eye about this card was the unique Fedorov 2-colour jersey piece which comes from the 1997 NHL Western All-Stars jersey he wore in that game. Fitting timing given that this weekend was All-Star weekend for the NHL.
2005-06 MVP Platinum /25
I was glad to acquire 3 more cards from this set, maybe one day I'll be so lucky to put the entire set together.
2005-06 UD Rookie Threads Al Montoya (3-colour)
This was an upgrade to my 2-colour version Montoya card. One of only two 3-colour copies of this card that I have seen. The first one I missed out on due to forgetting to bid, so I was happy to get a second chance haha. If anyone needs the 2-colour copy of this card it is now available.
And now the top 3...
#3. 2005-06 UD Victory Black Yann Danis RC 4/5
Its probably redundant to state how tough these cards are becoming to find. Since buying a massive 40-card lot of victory black cards from one collector, I went on a spree of acquiring every readily available 05-06 victory black card on the market. Needless to say I've had to search much harder to find missing cards for my set. With the acquisition of the Danis, it now brings me to 54/300 or roughly 18% of the set.
#2. 2005-06 Fleer Ultra Super Six Patch Patrick Roy 6/6 (3-colour)
This card was on my watchlist for ages, but unfortunately the asking price was greater than what I was willing to pay for it. Luckily for me, it went up for auction and I ended up winning the card at a number which I was happy to pay for it.
And finally...
#1. 2005-06 UD High Glossy /10
My choice for number one was all of the high glossy cards I managed to find, a total of four to be exact. The two capitals cards, Cassels and Friesen, were only made possible through the help of a facebook member who alerted me of their listings. I'm not sure if they are a member of the forum here, but if you are, thank you David! The Tallackson card may not get many people out of their seats, but its the lesser known and long forgotten players which are proving to be harder to acquire than the well known players. The final HG card is of Joe Thornton in a Boston Bruins uniform. He has a total of three cards in the set, two bruins and one sharks card, and this is the only HG version of the three that I have seen. I can't imagine how tough it is going to be to find his Bruins checklist card and Sharks card given that I have never even seen one. If any current or former Thornton collectors know of any info on the missing HG Thorntons, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated. The latest four HG pickups brings my set progress to 162/487 or roughly 33% completion with more on the way!
Well that pretty much wraps up this Show-and-tell, if you enjoyed it or have any information pertaining to cards I can use in my collection, feel free to leave a comment or send me a PM. Looking forward to more deals in the future and wish everyone an enjoyable weekend.
