First Upperdeck Replacement Experience - Seriously?!

Hi guys,

I am not normally one to complain, but I thought this should be aired, and not really sure where else to put it.

I asked for a Replacement from Upperdeck on my Gallagher FWA /999 that I had pending for a year. I sent an email back in May, and last week the replacement was mailed.

I sent in the email that I would like these as replacement. I know this is just used as a guide - but what I received, was less than impressive.

I asked for:
Erik Karlsson
Mika Zibanejad
Cody Ceci
Patrick Roy
Joe Sakic
Curtis Lazar
Current Ottawa Senators cards

So I gave them plenty of options, and I didn't go all "Sidney Crosby, Stamkos, McDavid etc"

What did I get?

A Spezza/Heatley dual autograph from 05-06 SP Authentic.

Neither play on the team - both left on terrible terms. Furthermore - this is a $5 card (if that) replacing a Gallagher RC autograph.

How would everyone else feel about this replacement? Am I way off base thinking this is terrible?

Anyone have a contact direct at UD that I can call? Or is emailing the best option?

Ouchh, I think that is a rough replacement. They look at the BV I think. The dual auto you got books for 60BV, and the Gallagher books for 40BV (used to book 60 If my memory is right).

Still, they could have send you a better replacement.

Not a fair replacement Dave, I've dealt with this in the past too with them. If you contact UD and explain the situation nicely, they will certainly take are of it. I have learned my lesson with them, you get way more with honey then vinegar, but if you can hold back the tongue lashing they may deserve, you will most likely end up with something that makes you feel good about the swap. you did ask for sens stuff and they sent you a dual "hard-signed" auto for a replacement. i know they dont play for the sens anymore (heatley is not in the nhl anymore), but at one time they were both pretty big names in ottawa. i feel its not bad but its not great either.
 
I raelly doubt it's a $5 card. If it's a Sign of the Times that has never surfaced or is scarce, you might get a lot more for it than you think.

He asked for CURRENT Sens cards. What he got was not. I'd be unhappy with that replacement also.

Would also think its a great card..dual hard signed from great former players..only issue: Not current players..but for sure no 5$ ...more near 50$ if you ask me..congrats to this card..maybe you will enjoy them later more than now!!;)
 
I'd be less than impressed with that as well. I know that UD has said they are still working on getting Gallagher to sign--maybe you can work it out with them to send that dual back and keep hoping for the best. Haha

As noted above, call and explain politely that you were hoping for current members of the team--while Spezza and Heatley were once valued and popular members of the Sens, the way they left has really left a bad taste in fans' mouths (yours included) which is why you would like to appeal for something a little more current, relevant, and in line with your wants.
 
I just did a quick eBay search and none are listed of your Spezza / Heatley and none have sold recently. I am not sure how rare that the card actually is but it could be some really short printed card that you have there.

Great points.......i redeemed a Jon Jones UFC Goodwin Champions Auto that never got made......UD sent me a Johnny Bench Auto from that same GC set as replacement and i ended up selling for $100 on ebay......paid $45 for the Jones.
 
It's stuff like this, in my opinion, that deserves more attention then worrying about an extra game used card being on the market of a prospect who will likely not amount to much.

Upper Deck and their redemption replacement practices and policies are the absolute worst in the hobby.

OP I would raise the issue with them until you feel like you have received proper value for the Gallagher.

As I have told many trying to downplay the furor over the death of Cecil the Lion by comparing him to other important issues: We can care about more than one thing and doing so doesn't detract from the others. And sometimes, like with Cecil, we can actually accomplish something.

Regarding the OP, I think you should float it on eBay starting at $60 or even $100 OBO and see if you get any takers, then use the $$ to buy something you like, if it sells. If not, yes, I would agree that it is not an appropriate substitution.
 
Dave, I received one of those a few years back as a replacement. Mind you it was closer to release and people were actively searching for that set but I put it up with a $79.99 BIN and it sold in less than 2 hours. Not sure what it would rake in now but it is definitely not a $5 card.
 
Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm not sure about the value now - but I recall I had one of these back when I actively collected both players and I believe I paid $25 at a local show then...neither of these players have much (in heatleys case any) hobby love anymore. I guess I'll take the advice of some and put it up and hope for the best.

Hmm I hope it all works out for you in the end. Just wondering though, did you ask for a replacement just because you were tired of waiting or is Gallagher not signing at all?

I have a redemption outstanding and was wondering...
