Fleury to the Blackhawks

Vegas: Who is interested in MAF?

Chicago: We are.

Vegas: What will you give us for him?

Chicago: Nothing.

Vegas: Deal!

Fleury dealt to Blackhawks, reportedly doesn't want to play for them

Marc-Andre Fleury may not suit up for his new team.

The Vegas Golden Knights dealt the reigning Vezina Trophy winner to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Mikael Hakkarainen, the clubs announced Tuesday.

However, Fleury was "totally shocked" by the deal, a source told The Athletic's Mark Lazerus. A second source told Lazerus that Fleury doesn't want to play with Chicago, saying the longtime puck-stopper isn't interested in moving his family to an unfamiliar city and that it's not about the Blackhawks organization.

Several hours after the trade, Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon revealed Fleury wasn't interested in leaving.

"(He) wanted to play in Vegas," the GM said, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

What a crap move by the Knights, at least in how they treated MAF. I get it's a business, but at least have enough respect to tell the guy first.

I hope he does continue to play - MAF is nothing but class.

Vegas looks really bad here, but, Stan Bowman also looks like a complete buffoon which is no surprise. So what happens now, does the trade get cancelled or?????

It's a no lose situation for the Hawks. If he plays they get a year out of him, helps mentor Lankinen and if the Hawks are out of it by the trade deadline they try to flip him for some picks.

If he retires the Knights are on the books for his cap hit and all it cost was a minor leaguer that will probably never get to the NHL, who will still playing for Rockford.

Fleury 'really excited for the year to come' with Blackhawks, GM says

Goalie, traded by Golden Knights on July 27, 'needed to process through everything'

Marc-Andre Fleury spent his first day with the Chicago Blackhawks touring their practice facility with general manager Stan Bowman and meeting a few of his new teammates.

"Certainly, it's a huge addition to our team," Bowman said Monday of acquiring the goalie in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on July 27. "We're thrilled with what he brings to the table.

"It's not too often you get a chance to add a Vezina Trophy-winning goalie to your team in the offseason, but that's the situation we were in and couldn't be more excited to have him here with us in Chicago. I know in talking to him, he was really excited for the year to come."

Fleury will speak to the media for the first time since the trade 27th of July.
