I'm all for losing Metropolit and Vaananen for Briere to play. But with Timonen out, they have to keep Kukkonen for now. Which means that Claude Giroux, who has been centering their #1 PP unit, was sent down to make room for Briere. I want Briere back in the lineup, but not at the expense of Giroux in it (Nate Guenin was called up and Kukkonen was recalled). Hopefully Timonen is healthy by tomorrow, Giroux comes back, and Kukkonen gets waived.

yeah thats brutal. unfortunately play doesnt matter when it involves someone with an outrageous contract liek ole Danielle Briere.

Giroux has made some rookie mistakes but overall he has had solid play. I want Briere back in but Giroux has to have a place made for him. There are much better candidates to not play.

The contract makes that an impossibility though. One of those play through it deals I think :|

The onyl good thing is its a reverse contract, so his salary goes down every year. Hes still not worth it though.

Doesn't matter if his contract is front loaded or not, the cap hit is the same. Briere also has a NTC which makes his contract all that much more worse.

The crappy thing for Philly is that if it wasn't for Biron, Briere probably wouldn't have signed in Philly.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the cap will go down too, so 10 million this year will be about equal to 8 million next year. He still will be making 7 million per season through the 12-13 season.

It will be intersteing to see how they juggle players around the cap for the next while. All this, and they still need to sign a real goalie to be a contender.

The salary cap for 09-10 won't be going down by much if at all, it'll be the 10-11 year that everyone is going to be seriously concerned about.
