I must say I am sorry for all the bad S##T I said about ITG. You changed my mind 100% in 1 day. It started with the most amazing superboxes ( all 15) I have ever seen. They were by far the best box breaks ever. Then I seen 3 boxes of BTP get busted and swear the hits from every box were case hits and they just kept coming. And the final reason, I recieved packages at home and the store to order the 72 series boxes with posters and all included. First ITG advertising I have ever recieved.

I am still on happy with the customer service I recieved when I tried to order the superboxes as I was treated like a bush league store and recieved no respect at all. But I guess ITG will eventually recognize that I am one of the larger if not the largest buyer of wax in the lower mainland. (because of the store not all for me).

But I will give it to BRIAN PRICE as he has moved up in my books.

Hey Jay...glad things turned out buddy...maybe now you can get rid of that faded Gretzky poster on the comic case yeah? ;)

Tavares Draft day, Hedman Draft Day, Kane Draft Day, Hainsworth /9, Nabokov SUPER sick 9 break patch /9, Esposito Patch /9, Thomas Gold Mask, Mason/Pogge Jersey, 8 other minor leagures number of 9 and 74 other gamue used cards.

Jay,
Congrats on your pulls. No offense but I wanted to bring this up because I see a common theme in your post that I see more and more on this site. I don't understand how someone's opinion of a company can change that quickly because of a couple of good box breaks. You got lucky and beat the odds. It is a gamble and sometimes it doesn't work out. ITG is still the same company it was before your breaks.

I think it sounds as though he was upset at the customer service he received when placing his order, now that he broke his boxes it has relieved some of that frustration. But your right still the same company and this could have went the other way had not so many nice cards come from the break.

wow and just a little while ago everyone was complaining their Brodeur superboxes didn't contain the odds and people were getting shafted on packs of base. at any rate, if a card company is making customers happy, then that's all that matters!

Here is what I dont understand though, one persons shaft is anothers lucky day, I dont work for UD or ITG and have never been to their facility, but I'm sure there is a reason why stated odds are averages, I know it can be frustrating to be shorted (and since that is not the case here) that shouldnt determine if a product or company is good. Companies should be rated on their customer service, the product (how it looks, how it feels heck even how it smells). For people only busting a box of somethign to get shorted sucks, but to the ones busting a case or two do you really notice it in the end?

As happy as I am for the OP to be happy with his breaks and ITG, if there was a customer service issue to begin with, I would like to see that taken care of as a priority.

It wasn't just the box breaks but a more of a showing of respect for the stores that sell their products as I have no been personally contacted by Brian Price concerning my issues. With the recieving of prduct information before the general public as well as the materials to help market the products. I had always though of ITG as a basement run company taking advantage of the UD haters as they had no where else to turn.

I have now seen that they do care about where about the products end user, they just need to work on the support of the middle man who sells their products. I truely do believe they are going to fix the weakness in their company. As it will help them prosper much more as a company.

I do converse with a number of stores who are not members who have all expressed the same concerns. When the product and support is available to us it will help ITG gain even more market share.

If I can interject here a bit...Jay and I had a pretty long discussion about this the last time I was in his shop, and he had mentioned that one of his biggest gripes with ITG was that he as a store owner felt in the dark about their products because he didn't receive product information, or product promotional material (ie posters, cardboard standups, etc) to sell the product in-store ahead of time. In fact, the day I was in the store, I'd received some more information about some ITG product via email which I shared with him that he had no idea about previously, and Jay usually keeps ahead of the curve to answer questions about product as best he can.

When you want to put together a service or product, you do so with the hopes of exceeding expectation. Since ITG, Upper Deck, et al, are in the business of sports cards, they (mostly) only have the opportunity to:

  • Make you happy when you open your packs
  • Make you happy when you approach them with issues
  • Make you happy during your order process (for direct orders)

If your expectation, for example, is 1 autographed card and 1 memorabilia card per box, and you get an extra autograph hit - awesome! If you're shorted that same hit, even if it's part of the same case, you feel shafted. Delivering the product consistently, with the opportunity to surprise positively, would be the mark of success that card companies need to aim for. By and large, ITG finds ways to do that in hockey better than the alternative.

Now, dealing with issues - damaged cards and packaging, failure to receive expected hits, redemption and relatated - I've never had to challenge ITG with these issues. The most I've had to deal with ITG on are emails sent due to a redemption card taking just past the long-end of the expectation window (2002-03 ITG Used), which is much better than the arbitrary lengths I've dealt with elsewhere. I've also had issues with pack-damaged cards in 2006-07 H&P (around 100 from a 24-box case) and 2008-09 BTP (3 cards out of 4 boxes), which I've never approached ITG with as they seemed silly given the context. I don't know how they would've responded. I won't get into my issues with Upper Deck; it doesn't further the conversation.

As far as case-busting issues - when something is a case-hit and gets missed, well, that can be very angering. Usually things average out in terms of hits, etc., but missing a case hit can be painful.

The short of it is that satisfaction is a monster of many limbs, and the challenge of nailing all of them is what makes us all kinds of whiny.

ITG does not really do much for the store owner as mentioned in this post. If you recall during Brian Price's day in chat - he will be addressing that as I asked him about that during the Q&A session.

I would point out to the OP that you should consider buying from a distributor versus buying direct - the savings will astonish you. Contact your local distributor and compare pricing.....
