Halladay signed a 3yr. $60 million extension with the Phillies.

Here's a breakdown of who's getting who:

Mariners get: Cliff Lee (from Phillies)

Phillies get: Roy Halladay (from Blue Jays), Philippe Aumont, Juan Ramirez, and Tyson Gillies (from Mariners)

Blue Jays get: Kyle Drabek, Travis D'Arnaud (from Phillies), Brett Wallace (from A's)

A's get: Michael Taylor (from Blue Jays). Taylor gets traded twice in all of this as he came from the Phillies to the Blue Jays in the Halladay trade.

Huge deal. The Jays were in a tough spot, and I think they came out pretty good. I love the flip of Taylor for Wallace. I think Wallace will be starting at third this season. The Phillies get who they wanted all along in Halladay. And the M's come out the best in all of this (imo) in working their way into this deal and landing Lee. I don't really get why the A's parted with Wallace for Taylor, I mean they project fairly similar, but Wallace is farther along in his development and is Big League ready, Taylor is not.

I don't know what to make of this trade when I first examine it. For starters why is it that the Phillies gave up Drabek when during the season he was untouchable? From everything I have heard about what the Jays are receiving, they are getting blue chippers. If Drabek is anything like his father, he will be a solid major leaguer for 15 years. He has an A plus fastball already and the stuff to be a #1 pitcher. Brett Wallace was someone the Jays have coveted for a few years and it looks like he will start the season with the Jays at first base and Overbay is on his way out for pitching help. There are also rumors that Snider might be dealt for a front line pitcher. DOH.

Best Jay pitcher ever......possibly best Jay ever. Sad day for Jays Nation to see him go.
Thanks for the memories Doc..... class act all the way. I hope he realizes his dream of a championship, he deserves it.

The $6M that the Jays kicked into the deal basically bought them Drabek - Lee wanted Sabathia money or he was walking at the end of the year, so the Phils send him off and get a similar ace for a little less money and someone who wanted to be there. Since the Phils won't sign pitchers for more than 3-4 years - giving Lee the 6-7 yr deal he was looking for was a non-starter
