Ducks sign Kevin Shattenkirk to three-year, $11.7M deal
Fresh off winning the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning, defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk is headed to Anaheim on a three-year deal with the Ducks.
Shattenkirk's deal is worth $3.9 million a year.
Former Canadien Nate Thompson signs with Jets
On Saturday, the Winnipeg Jets told the 36-year-old he can still play, signing the free-agent centre to a one-year contract worth US$750,000.
In 70 games last season, split between the Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers, Thompson posted 4-11-15 totals and won more than 54 per cent of his faceoffs as a veteran fourth-liner who can also kill penalties. The Canadiens dealt Thompson to the Flyers at the NHL trade deadline in February in exchange for a fifth-round pick at next year’s NHL Draft.
Thompson will be heading into his 14th NHL season with his ninth team since being selected by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (183rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft. He has played for the Bruins, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, the Canadiens, Flyers and now joins the Jets.
