Free Agent Tracker

Not expecting anything too drastic from the Leafs today.

Hopefully we resign Boyle. If not maybe one of the Marleau or Thornton rumours comes true but only if it's short term, one or two years max. It wouldn't hurt to have a good vet around for little while to teach the kids before the cap crunch years kick in. I'd be surprised if one of those guys signed with us though. Boyle is more likely but he will want term that would probably overlap into the Matthews/Marner extensions.

Otherwise maybe a bottom pair defenseman? Or resign Hunwick? There isn't a lot more we can do outside of a trade without committing too much salary long term.

Bonino 4 years ....5 Mill a year .....a lot of money for someone who will get hurt a lot with the way he plays

Not a particularly strong class this year. Be interesting to see the term that some players like Alzner, Radulov get.

I saw somewhere this would have been the strongest free agent class ever.............10 years ago.

Jagr, Doan, Iginla, Thornton, Marleau, etc.

I'm waiting on some trades, notably to see where Matt Duchene goes. Before it was public a friend in the league told me about the Pens rumblings. I can tell you that's a strong possibility. Jackets are in the hunt as well.

They lost James Neal, they had to do it/something. I know they wanted Duchene but wouldn't part with a top 4 guy on D that Sakic wanted back.

Canucks have inked Sam Gagner 3yrs - $3.15M per. Del Zotto 2yrs $3M per, and Nilsson.

Alzner going to Montreal was a bit of a surprise. Under 5M cap hit.

Funniest thing I have seen on Twitter in awhile:

Dude retweeted Thornton and Marleau 3 year contract extensions. From January 2014.

In REAL time news I'm hearing Cammalleri back to the LA Kings for 1 year and Jonathan Bernier to the Avalanche for 1 year at only 2.75 mil. That's a great deal for them, goaltending is SOLID with him and Varlamov.

Hanzal going to Dallas is interesting. Will help fill the void in the face off circle since Eakin is gone. Also a good fill for Sharp leaving too.

Also hear Dallas is interested in Radulov.

Outside of signing Elliott to a nice little 2 year deal and retaining Weal, the Flyers have done absolutely nothing. That is a win in my book! I think they only have about 2.5 mil in cap space so they couldn't do much anyways, but at least no Dale Weise signings this year. They may go after some cheap depth player, but they have a lot of young guys that need playing time to see if they are NHL worthy or not.

It's a big number for a goaltender and it takes him to 37. On top of that, apparently $70M of that total is made up of signing bonuses so it's basically buyout proof.

Marleau signs with Toronto! 3yrs 18.75 mil, what a great pickup to add some veteran presence for the next few years, and some added depth on the wing or even center!

And the Leafs sign Patrick Marleau to a 3-year deal, $6.25M AAV

Marleau - Matthews - Nylander

Have to say I like the sound of that line, better than having Hyman on Matthews' wing that's for sure. Marleau is getting up there but I think he will still bring 25-ish goals and solid defensive play to that line.

Aside from the 3-year term (two would have been perfect) I'm pretty content with the signing.

You beat me to it
