And the money the Habs threw at Price is ridiculous.

Glad Avs signed Bernier. Varlamov is arguably the worst starting goalie in the league, and will likely be injured three games into the season anyway, so at least they picked up somebody who is used to playing behind a porous defence.

Way to go Dallas! The best offseason acquisitions so far IMO. To be able to land Bishop, Methot, Hanzal, & Radulov says they're definitely gonna be contenders again & that this last season was just a fluke. Hitchcock's "D first" mentality will pull this team back to form.

I can just see it now....1st line...Benn/Seguin/Radulov. Watch out NHL! They already had a decent offense & now this just multiplies it big time. With Methot slated to play top pair D with Klingberg...& Bishop getting his mojo back...this is a force to be reckoned with. Heck...even putting Radulov on the 2nd line with Spezza & maybe Shore is a great combo. Then Hanzal running 3rd line duties...or even 2nd line & moving Spezza to wing with Radulov....Yikes.

Definitely a team to be talking about now!
 
Plus adding Hitch behind the bench, buckle up Stars fans. Should be an exciting year in Dallas!

From #1 overall pick 5 years ago to depth winger for the rebuilding Avalanche.

That said, it's a good signing for the Avs, cheap potential though I hear attitude is still a big problem for this guy.

I think the oilers ruined this kids confidence when they played him in his rookie year. He was no where ready to be nhl ready. I think another year with the sting may have helped his career.
I hope he can turn it around in Colorado because he sure was fun to watch in juniors

I wonder if the attitude came with the likes of eberle and hall. Hall was a big problem when he was with the oilers

It has more to do with him not having the hockey IQ to see plays form or where to go when anyone else has the puck. From everything I've heard from writers I respect and the people on the inside that I know, he's a great kid who was well liked by everyone in the room. But when he didn't have the puck on the ice, he just did not know where to position himself.
 
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has agreed to terms with forward Zach Hyman on a four-year extension. The average annual value of the contract will be $2.25 million ($2.0M in 2017-18 and 2018-19, and $2.5M in 2019-20 and 2020-21).
 
Glad he signed somewhere. Always liked him with the Sabres and was disappointed that it didn't work out with the Leafs.

I did hear that news. I was wondering what you thought about that news. I think I read you were excited to get some of his eventual KHL cards? Well maybe he'll do well over there and get another shot at the NHL.

Yes! I'm very excited about it, actually. I get to add some KHL cards to my collection, which is very cool for me. Adding some variety to a collection is never a bad thing!

As for Enroth, it'll be interesting to see what happens if he has a fantastic year in the KHL. My gut feeling though, is that it'll be tough to comeback to the NHL depending on what the free agent goalie situations look like next year, plus a lot of teams seem to get hung up on his lack of size, which can scare some teams.

Even looking into the Free Agency pool this year and last, some other goalies got backup spots almost strictly on their height even though, statistically speaking, Enroth was more 'deserving' of the spot. But I could be biased and splitting hairs here.

Even in today's NHL "bigger goalie = better" mentality is still strong in some of the NHL management's eyes. Ah well, what can you do.

Anyways, it's all good. I'm just excited to see what happens this year and beyond, whether that includes the NHL or not. :)

Canucks sign Thomas Vanek to a one-year deal, 2M.

Or should I say:

Canucks sign Thomas Vanek for a 3/4-year deal, and who knows where he plays the rest of the 17/18 season...

Also worth noting, the Canucks are paying him less to play for them than the Wild are paying him NOT to play for them.

I think he'll be good in Avs country. He will be good again if they score. If McKinnon leaves, it'll be a little effort but could see 2nd line time on that squad.

Also, the Sabres always have good goalies come into their system. Enroth was valuable as a trade commodity when he was hitting his stride, unfortunately being relegated to backup hurt his value as a potential starter. If he stayed with the Sabres, he would have been contending for starter for sure instead of jumping around the league as a good backup.

Any inkling on Jagr signing anywhere yet? He still plays better than half the league.
