Are the Future Watch auto patch cards in SP Authentic considered an official rookie cards?

Hi there the ones of /999 are the true rc but the future watch auto patch cards are some of the most highly collectable cards as well.Very popular with many collectors!!!!

No the FW Patches #/100 are not true rc's. Hockey seems to be the most picky about "RC" designation, and FW Patch RC's are just a parallel with fake/photoshot jersey on it.

I'm a firm believer that any card that is numbered as part of the base set or comes from a insert set specifically designated for rookies, then it's a RC.

To me any card that was released within a players rookie year should be considered a rookie card. I know I'm in the minority in that, but it really is the most logical conclusion.

I don't consider them rookie cards but in my opinion that doesn't make them any less desireable. There are some rookie year cards that are just as or more popular or more sought after than most rookie cards and Future Watch Patch autos fit into that category.

I think they should be but actually aren't.
The actaul RC card is the card in the set numbered to whatever it is, /999, in the case of SPA. THIS is considered part of the original complete set. The RC Patch card is the "LIMITED" version of the card. It is the "same" as pulling a Legends subset card of Howe numbered to 100 or a regular card marked with Limited and being #'d to 100. The Patch is a nice bonus for patch collectors and player collectors. I haven't been lucky enough to know if there is a limited version of RC's numbered higher.
It is sort of like pulling a patch version of an SPX RC. SPX doesn't create a patch only version of it's base RC set, so this is a parallel. Also, the CUP RC cards are numbered to 99, right? So are the parallel versions numbered to the player's jersey number RC's? Most collectors do not considered these as their true RC cards from The CUP.

IMO these are as close to being official RC's as you can get, without actually being RC's.
The only true difference between an RC and an almost-RC is the tag in Beckett magazine. And we all know how many errors of disclosure and lack of attention to detail Beckett displays year in and year out so does it really matter anymore?
It seems like the RC tag is becoming less and less important anyway. Non-RC's like these FWA's are huge in popularity and in many cases are nicer that their parallel RC's anyway.
Buy what you like. Rookie year cards are pretty cool even if the Beckett braintrust (did I just say that?) doesn't give them the RC label.

True RC's are part of the base set. Any parallels or insert is not considered true rc's. But there are awesome cards that are not considered true rc's.

Each set should only have 1 true rookie out of the lot. If they decide to come out with 2-3-4-5 different cards for them in their rookie year so be it, but I don't think the market could handle 4 different rookie cards for SPA, then 4 more for Upper Deck and all the other sets hitting the market.
Think of Certified and Crown this year, there would be like 18 different Hall rookies just base on parallels alone

It was nice back in the early 90's where they had 1 true rookie, then the following year they flooded the market. Gave the collector something to look forward too, compared to a first year player flooding the market then not even playing a full game til year 4

If there was a patch auto for every card in the set, including the base, essentials, and rookies, I might say it's a true RC. But as they are right now, they are just a very nice and very sought after parallel.
