Question for any game used equipment collectors out there....

I got some stuff in from the Flyers, but it doesn't have any COA.
Now, I dont plan on selling it, so it's not that important to me, but if something were to happen and I needed to move them, I'd have a hard time proving what they are, right? Should I make a big deal about getting the COAs?

can you send anything in to them? I have a stick I can't seem to photomatch though it does have a serial number on it.

Document in your owns terms where you recieved the item. Some people understand(hopefully) that a "certified" document can not be processed. most people will listen toa legit story on how the item was acquired and when etc....
I have numerous items that where acquired and it wasn't very "approriate" to ask the player"Hey wait a minute...Can you type me a letter saying you gave this to me...."
Sometimes being realistic and understandable AND COMMUNICATION will help...

I would try and photomatch it myself first. If I couldn't and I was worried about it do like GIJoe 9 said and send it to Meigray. If it were me I would have to know the person selling if there wasn't a LOA with it. In the short time I've been collecting game used I've seen too many fakes and most didn't have a letter with it. I can only speak for Red Wings stuff but newer items all come with LOA's and holograms with matching serial numbers. I know other teams do it differently though.

How does the Meigray authentication work? I bought a stick from them that came with nothing but a receipt for my payment lol

Do they dig around for photomatches or something?

My Carey Price game-used stick came directly from the Canadiens w/o COA. I'm not too concerned about any questions as to its legitimacy. I believe I still have the emails from the fella I negotiated the sale with, so that'll do, IMO.

Thanks all,
I got Giroux game used gloves (have his name sewn into them) and a game used helmet that you wouldnt know was his unless I told you.

I do have the emails from them though.
Hopefully there's never a reason for me to need them anyway.

If there's any distinguishing marks they should be pretty easy to match up on Getty. Plus the fact you can order Getty photo's on nhl photo store and you wouldn't need a LOA. As long as you know the time frame of when the stuff was worn you should be able to match them up.

Like everyone has said, don't worry about too much. Some equipment is easier to photomatch, sticks are most difficult since players go through so many.

If you get it from the team, it's either game or practice used, without a photomatch it's going to be tough knowing if and when it was used. In that case places like MeiGray would do the same thing you would do, they'd do the research to find out color, style, etc and try and find as many photo references to at least rule it out as fake - in many cases their research will prove inconclusive.

It came from the flyers directly, I wouldn't worry. I just picked up a Henrik Sedin stick from the Canucks during their equipment sale, no COA. Some teams have and some don't. I know up here in Montreal the Habs equipment sale stuff doesn't include COAs, just a receipt that says used equipment or something vague like that. Even then, I've photomatched some stuff that I've picked up there.

To recap, I wouldn't worry.
