Gamers...what are you playing right now?

Well today was a good day for my collection. Picked up my copy of NHL 10 and let me say, awesome. Love the GM Mode, I do find it funny I use a Blackberry in the game. The Entry draft is nice to, you can make trades at the top of rounds, love the new trading system. Players now are trade valued, not valued by rating. For example I could trade Luke Schenn for Brad Richards and another mid end player. And I found it much easier to score.

Then looking at the used wall, saw Batman Arkham Asylum, like it a lot, love the combat, very very satisfying, when you punch a guy in the head and falls down, he puts his hand where you kicked him

My copy of Professor Layton un-corrupted its save file (seriously) so I'll probably get back into that when I'm in Toronto next week.

Playing Beatles Rock Band at home right now...trying to complete the 22 solos at 85% on expert guitar challenge, but I'm stuck on Taxman...it has this really brief, really **** solo where the buttons are all squished together. Got 84% once, but haven't been close to it since.
 
I'm playing...oh wait, I'm not playing anything. My Xbox360 broke:| Keeps freezing within the first 5 minutes. So devasted, I was so looking forward to NHL2010 and the week it comes out it breaks. I guess it could have been worse. I could have gotten NHL2010 first then had it break. Matt, any idea if anyone fixes the system?
 
Stacey, have you bought the system in the last 3 years? Microsoft's automatically extended all RROD failures for 3 years past system purchase, so they'll either fix it or replace it free of charge (which is what they had to do to my system)

...it sounds to me like you have an RROD failure. I had the same problem with my first system. It would either just fail off the getgo, or it would start the game, and then about 5 minutes in, freeze.

Judging by the sound of it, you don't have a hard drive failure, which is always good news. What does suck though is you now need to call Microsoft and walk through the diagnostics with their service team. It'll probably take you about 2 hours (half hour to an hour on the phone waiting and another hour to walk through with them.) Like Dell or any other company, they need to knock out all possibilities before they actually have you send the system back.

If the system's older than 3 years though, you might be SOL and will have to buy a new one. I don't know of anybody who fixes them around here, and would bet that repair costs would probably go over $150. You can buy a new 360 Arcade system for $200 which comes with no hard drive...you can just pop your hard drive in and go from there...since the new cooling systems and HDMI output are on every system as far as I know, there's no sense in buying an Elite unless you want the big hard drive.
 
Not to butt in here, but you have a RROD coming soon. My friend had this problem where he'd play a game and it would freeze and he would restart and be fine for a bit then freeze. But his RR'd then he didn't touch it for a week, then it worked for a few days, then it RROD.

Before you call customer service, register your Xbox online if you haven't done so, that's the one thing I learned. I spent maybe 1 and a half hour in total on the phone with customer service people. You can get it fixed if it's over 3 years I believe. Mine was a launch one, and it was expired before we bought it, so we had to pay 100$ to ship it and get a new one(plus a free month of XBL, which covers the amount of time you may not have it for).But I'm unsure as mine was a drive problem, not a RROD or whatever that new error is (E-76?)

My brother picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 yesterday and we played it for about 3 hours, it's a pretty amazing game! they dumbed down the upgrading system and they added the "Fusion" attacks, plus you can be fighting like 20 bad guys on the screen at once so it's all out craziness. I really like the game so far.
 
I just played my first full evening of NHL 10, and wow what a game!
I buy it every year as ritual, but this year the gameplay is so much more real.

I really enjoy mucking it up along the boards, kicking the puck to your teamate, stick lifting, face washing your opponents, etc. Simply Awesome!!
Also the players skate so much more fluid and the goaltenders can actually make critical errors in the game, which allow you to score fluke goals like never before.
The in-game music actually is rockin for once too, which is a nice change.

I have yet to try BAP or GM mode yet, but that will be a work in progress.
Overall though, I give this game an A+ which it truly deserves.

I just tried the Be a GM mode on NHL10 last night, and this is the neatest thing yet to come out of this game's history.

You start playing the Prospects game and you're told to keep an eye on the best of the best so to speak. After the game, you're given recommendations from scouting and then make your best decision and proceed to the entry draft. It's pretty neat to go minutes from the draft and get a call on your Blackberry from another team proposing a trade....really neat idea!

After spending a couple hours building the team, I finally get to play the first game of the season tonight. And it looks like the AHL mode was saved for this part of the game also.

If you haven't bought this game yet, I highly recommend that you pick it up!
 
i've been playing NHL10 this whole week in BAP mode...finally got called up to eh Leafs and now am on the 2nd line pairing with Schenn haha

and i agree, the skating looks way smoother than ever before

Ugh. Mine started freezing up a few times lately in the middle of playing games.
 
Downloaded the FIFA10 demo for PS3. I like it so far, need to play more though. It has 6 teams, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Olympique Marseille and Chicago Fire. Won my first match as Barca, beating Juventus in a PK shootout, after saving a PK in the last minute.

Can't wait for the full game. Probably going to get NHL10 this weekend.

Finished Batman: Arkham Asyulmn. Incredible game, loved everything about it. The chilling nightmares of Scarecrows Fear Gas, the Lunitics popping out of the vents, the combat was insanely satisfying.

Now all that's left is those damn trophys and tapes
 
playing madden 10 at the moment on the ps3. i will not buy this years nhl. it rocks but it is too similiar to 09, which i have. i bought creature from the black lagoon and twilight zone pinball this past month to keep me pretty busy this coming fall/winter. collecting hockey cards is addictive but wait until you get hooked on pinball!
 
Playing Layton and the Curious Village while I'm in Toronto for the week...I guess I miss my 360 because I've been singing "Back in the USSR" all day :roll:
 
I just finished Gears of War 2. I enjoyed the surface levels much more than the underground levels. Now I'm trying to figure out what to play next, back to Oblivion or NHL09 or go and buy a new game.
 
Played Rock Band Beatles with a friend tonight where we both sang...THAT was fun..especially on the lighter hearted songs like I am the Walrus and Hey Bulldog where there's a lot of gibberish screaming.
