According to tsn.ca

Sources tell TSN the Florida Panthers have agreed to a trade involving Gary Roberts and have asked him to waive his no trade clause.

But sources say the deal is not with Toronto or Ottawa, the only two teams Roberts has said he will go to. So at this point, the ball is in Roberts' court, but there is no guarantee he will waive the clause.

Looks like it could be Pittsburgh?

If I was Roberts, I'd be all over ANY trade, anything to get out of playing out the string in Florida. Toronto still doesn't make any sense since they aren't guaranteed a playoff spot. The Pens would be cool. :)

If it is a young roster player with 'potential' from Pittsburgh though, who is it? It's obviously not Crosby, Malkin or Staal... Whitney or Malone? Maybe Ruutu?

Cory, If I was Roberts I'd do whatever I could to stay in Florida!! Why would someone want to leave living in Miami to come to some cold Canadian city?? :p

He's UFA this summer isn't he? If so, he should go virtually anywhere playoff bound and deal with finding a gig in Toronto or Ottawa come July 1st.

Article in Pittsburgh today said Pens were looking to
get him. Did not say what they'd give up, but that
he wanted to go near Toronto because he has a
duaghter up there.

Roberts did not fly with the Panthers to Washington today,
he is deciding whether he wants to go to Pittsburgh or not.
A deal is done, roster player involved on Pittsburgh's end, it's all up to Robs.

not bad for a guy that missed nearly 2 yrs with a broken neck :)

Coming from a neutral observer such as yourself, that is a great endorsement!

I like Roberts, but I am kind of glad that it isn't the Leafs, they don't need to be trading away young players/picks at this time.

yeah I would have liked to see him back with my buds, but I'd rather see him have a good shot at a cup & I don't honestly think the leafs have the team to do it yet. Now I'll have to compete with those crazy penguin fans for his cardboard, hopefully they don't go as nuts for him as all those panthers collectors do :D

Considering the Leafs may be a stretch to even make the playoffs, I think they did a good job holding off on going for broke on Roberts. But man, with the prices these rent a players are going for, they should shop Sundin and get something for him, then resign him in the summer.

Cory

What a great pickup for Pittsburgh...all that young talent, now throw in Roberts' vertern leadership (in addition to Recchi's) and this will be invaluable for this young club...even if they don't resign him after this season. Great addition!!
