A real gem for me, Bill Cleary, member of the 1960 Team USA Olympic team that won the Gold Medal over the heavily favored Soviets. He also won an Olympic Silver Medal in 1956 after turning down an NHL contract from the Montreal Canadiens. Who turns down a contract from an NHL team??? Cleary still holds many records at Harvard University, and he was awarded Best Forward award at the 1959 IIHF World Championships. The ECAC regular season championship trophy is named the Cleary Cup after Bill.
And the best document to arrive, a WHA Chicago Cougars Ralph Backstrom contract and bonus/insurance clauses. WHA contracts are amongst the rarest of all hockey contracts to find, especially of the "bigger name" WHA players. It is signed in multiple times by Backstrom, Walter Kaiser, and Gary L. Davidson. When this came up for sale, I didn't even try to haggle. The price was lower then what I would have expected, and due to the rarity and connection with Chicago, I grabbed it without even thinking twice. So happy to add this one to the collection! :beer:
