SABRES (16-14-3) at MAPLE LEAFS (16-13-4)

TV: MSG-Buffalo, LEAFS TV

Last 10: Buffalo 3-5-2; Toronto 3-5-2.

Season Series: The Sabres lead the season series 1-0 after taking the first meeting between the division rivals, a 5-4 win in Buffalo on Dec. 16.

Big Story: Buffalo was a team with high expectations when the season began and after a strong burst to start the campaign Toronto was a team thinking the same time. The division rivals have fallen on hard times, however, combining for a grand total of three regulation wins in their last 20 games. If either the Sabres or Maple Leafs want to snap their respective funks and get their house in order, kicking a direct competitor while it's down may be the best way.

Let's go Buffalo?

Honestly, I want to be bold and say "win" tonight because it would fit the Sabres M.O. of winning one, losing two, winning one, losing two.

Ugh, I hate playing the Sabres. It's always like a Game 7 Stanley Cup finals for them when they play us. They stink all week, get embarassingly thrown around like rag dolls, have Peggula opening his trap and not his wallet for once, Roy/Stafford/Leino still not producing, Ruff on the hot seat, etc yet when they play the Leafs it's "arghh, bahhh! Die Leafs! Arghhh! It's goo time Laffs arggghh rrr dieee!!! Your ours!"

4-2 Sabres with goals from Roy, Leino and whoever else is sucking the bed for the Sabres. Oh and a couple PP goals for good measure.

It's Sabres-Leafs. It's a guaranteed Sabres win. This is their Stanley Cup remember?

Leino's hurt, fyi. Damn near the whole lineup is hurt, fyi. I think it's the curse of the Tinman.

He was playing well of late before he went down. Regardless, when your team is missing nine guys, you'd prefer an NHLer in there even if they are struggling to produce.

I know, I'm just razzing you. I've watched a few of their games recently and he did look a little better.

The revolving door of injuries. Welcome to the new NHL. It's incredible... we've had Reimer for 6 weeks, Connolly, Armstrong twice, Komisarek, Bozak, Steckal, Lombardi, Brown, MacArthur, etc all miss time with injuries. Several of them missed (or are missing) significant time (Reimer, Brown, Connolly, Komi, Lombardi).

The NHL is becoming more and more about who survives the season.

No-freakin'-kidding. The Sabres have lost Miller (he's back), Myers (still out), Gerbe (twice now), Ennis (ditto), Kaleta, Gaustad, Weber, Leopold, Stuart, Hecht, Leino and Boyes so far this year. It seems like as soon as someone comes back, multiple people go down.

It's incredible the Sabres are even treading water between the injuries and the inconsistency.

And they'll still play amazing tonight.Ryan Miller
just loves playing the Leafs.Wish he'd play everybody
the same.

You and me both. He was strong coming off injury then had a "meh" outing against the Leafs and a "thanks for showing up" effort against the Pens on Saturday. Dude epitomizes the inconsistency of the entire team.

It's a shame, Buffalo has played well and pretty consistently. One really weak goal from Miller (Kadri) kills it, though. I'm very concerned for my bet with Beibs. Vanek is out with the dreaded "upper body injury" now. Who the hell is going to be left?

What happened to Vanek? Only following game on
NHL.com.Didn't watch it.
