Last 10: Calgary 5-5-0; Edmonton 5-3-2

Season series: It's the fifth and final edition of this season's Battle of Alberta. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers have split the first four games, with the road team winning all four.

Big story: The Stanley Cup Playoffs aren't coming to Alberta this spring, but that doesn't mean the Flames and Oilers don't have anything to play for. Each team is heavily invested in finding out which of its young players deserve more time in the final weeks of this season as well as in 2014-15.
 
I take the dog out for a quick walk, it's 1-1.

I just got back. It's 5-1. We weren't even gone 10 minutes.

What the hell!?

At least a fan got a jersey tossed to him from Fasth.

I just feel bad for the Oilers and their fans.

I actually like both teams just I like the Oilers a little more. I just figured the game was over so went out and grabbed a few beers haha.

Oilers need to think about trading one or two of their young forwards for a few dmen. I would start with Yak!

I was thinking the same thing ... what do the Oilers do now? They are really bad.

Fire the coach? That would be 4 coaches in four seasons.

Trade for a goalie? Ummm ... tried that.

Tank and get a high draft pick? Ummm ... tried that. Quite a few times already.

Sign some big names in free agency? Nobody seems to want to go there. And there aren't many big names available this summer.

Trade seems to be the only sensible thing. Trade draft picks and prospects.

Free agency won't help this team hahaha. I bet we see some huge trades in the summer. Like I said I would start with yak and probably RNH. And if I was the Oilers managment I would draft nothing but defenseman for 2 years.
 
Okay, watching this from the peripheral... don't pay as much attention to the Oilers and Flames as I used to.

In the Oilers games I've watched during the season, Yak and RNH have NOT been what I would even call 'average' NHL players.

General question - if a first round draft pick, two prospects, and one roster player are not enough to get a cap-friendly player like a Kesler, then what makes people think a player like Yak or RNH being traded is going to solve the current Oiler woes?

Again, I don't pay as much attention to the Oilers as I used to, and I am not slamming them at all. Just curious.
 
I feel for the Oiler fans. Somewhere along the way the directions got lost and the ship has run aground and there's not easy fix in sight.

I can almost see some of the Oiler management eyeing McDavid as the possible saviour, so I wouldn't be surprised with another bad season, and some key players getting moved for a better chance at securing that pick.
