Season series: This is the first time the Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals have met since Jan. 3, 2012, which was a 3-1 victory for Washington at Verizon Centre. There are only five players on Calgary's current roster who played in that game for the Flames.

Big story: It is the home opener for the Capitals, who will raise a final Southeast Division banner before trying to tighten up defensively after a 6-4 loss to start the season against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

Finger crossed the Flames can shut down the Capitals as effectively as Congress has!

Let's go Flames!!! Despite knowing it would be better in the long run to come in bottom 3 this year, I just can't bring myself to cheer against. I want to show all those analyst, the Flames won't be as bad as they all think!

Hopefully the Caps don't play down to the Flames' level, because they should be able to handle them pretty well. Let's go Caps!

While I don't suspect the Flames to make the playoffs, and likely not even over .500, I do believe, teams will be surprised with the compete level of the Flames. Especially early in the season. With so many kids on 2 way contracts, they will be going up and down a lot and staying fresh, while giving a lot of jump in each game.

They won't be "pretty" or "dominant", but they should show a lot of energy and play hard each night. All fighting for spots on the team each night.

I don't know what newscaster said it, but the Flames will be entertaining this season. Seems as though he may have spoken some truth.
