(Blackhawks lead best-of-7 series 2-1)

Danny Briere signed the richest free-agent deal in Flyers history. Chris Pronger was acquired for two first-round draft picks.

Both players have been worth the big deals now that Philadelphia is in the Stanley Cup final. For all the reasons the Flyers have gone on this stunning ride from Eastern Conference seventh-seed to the final, the duo have easily led the way.

Win Philadelphia's first title since 1975 and either one could be the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the playoffs MVP.

First, they have to win.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville coached Pronger for eight seasons in St. Louis. He's used to watching Pronger do all he can to wrestle an advantage - though an extra poke or head games.

But he was surprised at some of the little things Pronger has been able to get away with.

"I think there's a couple for sure late in the game," Quenneville said. "There was one that got my attention. Whether it's stick use or obstruction, I think we'll keep an eye on it."

Quenneville has other concerns besides solving Pronger. The Blackhawks are coming off their first loss in a month. They had won seven straight playoff games and seven straight on the road before losing Game 3.

Chicago still has a series lead, but escaping Philadelphia with a 3-1 series lead will be tough. The Flyers are 8-1 at home this postseason.

"We have a lot of confidence in ourselves and in our ability in the next game," Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith said. "Something we're going to focus on is finishing strong. I thought we had a good start to our last game. Unfortunately, our finish wasn't as good as our start."

Save me a stub, Nick! Have fun at the game.

Whichever team's top line can break out will probably win this game. They've both been held in check way too long. If Philly can play the first and 2nd like they play the 3rd, they'll be in good shape. But Chicago's gotta be motivated to go up 3-1 and have a chance to raise the Cup on Sunday at home.

That has been the biggest surprise in my opinion. Have a feeling this may end up going 7 games.

Paul

I think that was the Flyers biggest failure in Game 3. Letting Kane and Towes get on the points board.

The 1st line really needs to wake up tonight especially Carter.

GO :hawks: GO

The Hawks should rebound tonight. Need the Toews, Kane, Buff line to have a BIG game to go up 3-1

It's Chicago who's looking gassed lately. Flyers break out tonight and turn it into a best of 3.

I'm watching the game from the flamingo diamond lounge right now :).

The youngest person in here by 25 years lol... go flyers!!!

Vegaspuck swing by I can get ya in for free :o.

Good fight in the Blackhawks....Flyers D looked tired at the end...Im glad they were able to hold them off...Lets Go Flyers...Bring it home.

WTF was up with the officiating? Seriously, that 5-3 in the third was complete bull****. An unsportsmanlike conduct call, with 8 minutes left in a stanley cup finals game? Thats just absolutely heinous. They let both teams get away with murder, and then call a week hold on Coburn while there already a man down too? And the "Cross check" they called on Hartnell, just wow, absolutely wow. some more ****astic officiating.

I think the Sharp call was actually supposed to go on Hossa, they just got the numbers crossed - he gave Pronger a whack behind the legs but they certainly could have let it go.

As much as I dreaded watching this series - all the games have been close and entertaining, looking forward for another two or three games.

Amazing, the media is talking about how the Flyerrs are getting everything called their way and even getting away with a ton, they have been given 16 powerplays to the Hawks 9 in the series, including a game where they were given 4 and the Hawks 0, they get a 2-1 advantage tonight with 6 power plays to 3, and the Philly fans still complain about it? You would think the Philly fans would be overjoyed that their team held serve at home to tie the series. Usually the Philly faithful are claiming Bettman and the refs are intentionally screwing them, now they are getting the better end of it at almost a 2 to 1 ratio when it matters most, and you still complain?

I refused to post in the GDT's here during the finals, but I just can't bite my tongue anymore. What does it take to make Philadelphia fans happy? Your team is playing outstanding hockey, they were down 0-2 coming home and battled back to tie it up, they are getting the calls in their favor by a landslide right now, Pronger has gotten away with murder almost to the point of laughing in the refs faces with his antics (although tonight he was very composed), and all you can say is how horrible the refs are. Unreal.

You would think the Philly fans would be overjoyed that their team held serve at home to tie the series, and for once the refs and Gary Bettman aren't "purposely screwing them". Amazing. Philly fans have nothing to complain about when it comes to the officiating.

That's what I was thinking too. It took a 3-goal Philly lead before the stripes started calling anything against them. Didn't Philly have like 8 PP's against in one of their 1st round games against NJ, yet only have 9 in 4 games this round.

I normally dont say much about the refs but they sure look like they want the series to go 7 games. Both sets of refs just plain SUCK and they are supposed to be the best.

GrimUSMC you might want to go back and watch the game agian and see all the penaltys that should have been called on you and then maybe you wont complain about the 5 on 3.

Grim was just complaining about the Hartnell call which I saw it there was weak, but it is what it is. I was more appauled at the line officals calling icing all night in favor of Chicago. I thought there was 2 or 3 icing calls that should have been waved off because Chicago tread lightly to get the puck.

What will make us happy. Easy. A win Sunday and the clincher on Wednesday...

Have you guys ever played hockey? There are penalties. So what. It's part of the game. TAnd you are right, the unsportsman conduct penalty was total BS. If I was the coach and one of my guys got an unsportsman conduct penalty in such and important game, I would have sent him to the dressing room after he served his penalty. What a selfish idiotic act on Hartnells part.

And I am a Philly fan. Hartnall needs to keep his yap shut. You chirp at the other players, not the refs. The other team is the enemy - not the refs. DO they make every call you want? No. The other team can say the same thing.

Sharp's slash at the back of Richard's leg was a penalty but a good pealty. Yes, there is no place for violence in the sport - but I bet Richards has a nice welt this morning which may knot up during the next game. It was a message. And I think he heard him.

The number of penalties are lop-sided right now because Chicago has for some reason got a bunch of stick violations (Slash, hooking, high-sticking). That is usually a sign that you just can't catch the other team but for the most part, those calls are in the offensinve end. The coaching staff will correct that. Ladd running the net was just because it his first game back - he was excited. But it sure caught Timmon's attention. He was scared the rest of the game. So, message.

It's a great series. I was hoping for a split in Chicago (I was thinking Philly in 5) but Niemi was a wall. I said before the series started - these are two tought teams. Both have skilled players and both are tough. My hat goes off to both teams.

I think the fans who like to watch but never really grew up playing the game may find it boring compard to the run and gun styles of Washington or Pittsburgh or Detroit but for those of us on here who have played or still play, we know how difficult it is to stand in front of the net, and what slashes feel like and how fast these guys are making plays develop and react... - this is great to watch. It is playoff hockey - both teams fought hard to get to the finals. They will fight even harder to finish.

So penalties.... Here's an idea. Don't take any. Shut your yap and hit hard. Let your play do the talking.

Campbell's hit on Leino was perfect. Head shot?? who cares, face you opponant. It's a contact sport.

Good job by both teams - I am enjoying the playoffs.

Go Flyers!

EDIT - For those of you who question the Norris trophy ... Keith is fantastic. Chases guys down, makes plays and like Pronger, he looks casual - you can not teach a player paitience. Keith gets in the corner battling with 2 guys and does not panic or try to blast it around to unknown areas, he simply makes 4 and 5 foot passes to his team mates. You can not teach that. 110% Norris worthy.
