Have not started too many of these...but figured I would to day. Hope the Pens can figure out a way to get their first win in the new arena. Hope the team can work their way through the injuries they currently have otherwise it is going to be a long season. Only good news I have herd is Staal is back on skates(not sure if the infection is cured yet though.

Langway05 has much better introductions to the games perhaps he'll add it to this thread
 
Isles are a team decimated by injuries. Missing their top 2 forwards and their all star dman. Here's hoping the young guys can turn it up a notch and Weight can hold em together for a big victory over the pens!!!
 
ISLANDERS (1-1-1) at PENGUINS (1-3-0)

TV -- MSG PLUS (HD), FSN-Pittsburgh (HD)

Season series -- The Islanders pay their first visit to the new Consol Energy Center as they meet their Atlantic Division rivals for the first time this season. Don't expect the Islanders to miss Mellon Arena -- they lost their last eight visits to the Igloo and won just twice in their last 16 trips.

Big story -- The Penguins have Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury and the newest building in the NHL. What they don't have is a victory in their new building as yet. While the Islanders were beginning a stretch of 12-in-15 on the road with a 2-1 loss at Washington on Wednesday, the Penguins fell to 0-3-0 in their new home with a 4-3 loss to Toronto. Their lone victory this season was a 3-1 win at New Jersey on Monday.

Team Scope:

Islanders -- The Isles gave the Caps everything they could handle on Wednesday, but the inability to cash in on some third-period chances and an unnecessary roughing penalty by Blake Comeau that led to the winning goal spoiled the night in the 2-1 loss.
"The end result wasn't too good, but I think as a team we did a great job," rookie Nino Niederreiter, who scored his first NHL goal, told the Islanders' website. "We had a good effort."
Penguins -- Three games and three one-goal losses -- not the ideal way to christen your new home. But that's what's happened to the Penguins, who have struggled to score and haven't gotten the kind of goaltending they need from Fleury, who stopped just 10 of 14 shots against Toronto. Brent Johnson, who got the win in New Jersey, will start against the Islanders even though Fleury is 6-0-1 in his last seven starts against New York with a 1.68 goals-against average.
The losses are beginning to become a matter of concern.
"Each game that goes by, especially when you expect to win each one, it starts to get discouraging," defenseman Paul Martin said. "That's something we can't concentrate on."
Who's hot -- Isles forward Blake Comeau has 3 goals in New York's first three games. … A chance to play the Islanders at home might be just what Sidney Crosby needs to shake an early-season slump (2 points in four games): He had 4 goals and 15 points in the Isles' last five visits to Pittsburgh.

Injury report -- The Islanders are without top defenseman Mark Streit and first-line winger Kyle Okposo for the foreseeable future after both had preseason shoulder surgery. Center Rob Schremp (back) might be back by the end of the month. The Islanders do hope to get second-year center John Tavares back for this game or Saturday night's home meeting with Colorado; he's been out after sustaining a concussion on Oct. 9. Defenseman James Wisniewski is sitting out the second of a two-game suspension. … Pittsburgh is still without center Jordan Staal (foot) and forward Arron Asham (upper body), both of whom resumed skating Thursday. Defenseman Zybnek Michalek will miss at least two weeks with a shoulder injury sustained on Monday, and fellow blueliner Brooks Orpik has missed two games with a groin problem.
Stat pack -- Pittsburgh has outscored the Islanders 39-15 in New York's last eight visits to the Steel City. Overall, the Pens are 15-3-1 in their last 19 meetings. … Fleury has a save percentage of .853, the lowest in the League through the first week of the season.

I hate complaining about the refs but a 5min major on a 110% clean hit..what the heck?...changed to illegal hit to the head on a shoulder to shoulder hit....just becuse a player falls to the ice doesn't make it a dirty hit
 
tavares is back tomorrow night against col.

penguinfan i agree when you watch it on replay. i think the refs saw it on the fly as a hit to the head when he extended his arms out on the hit. not really dirty in my mind. caught him from the side shoulder on shoulder. not a head shot imo.

however, i do like bailey sticking up for his linemate on the big hit.

yea...I know refs make errors....I wouldn't have gave a crap if it had been a minor...makes me wish instant replay was at least possible on 5min majors...obviously you couldn't do it for minors but majors.

On matt cook I agreed with the interference calls perhaps except for the last one as I believe both players were just trying to establish position...on the other hand protection the goalie is important so Cooke should just try a little harder to avoid the goalie......over all a pretty good game..happy being short a d-man didn't lead to another home loss
 
The Letang hit was called a major due to the theatrics of Blake Comeau. He went down to the ice like he had been shot at close range. There should be a penalty for embellishing something like that. I am all for protecting a players head, but faking an injury to get a penalty is rediculous.

It seems the Islanders players spent the summer getting acting lessons, cause they all have a flair for the dramatic. Dipietro and Comeau made me laugh as what they were doing was so obvious..

Now onto the game. I dont know what to say. The Pens power play is AWFUL. They need to put Malkin down low, and Tangradi in front of the net. I think Deryk Englland was the best player on the ice toneight with Tyler Kennedy right behind. God, I hope Jordan Staal can get in shape fast, cause this team needs him badly... Last comment, who kidnapped Crosby and Malkin, cause they seem to be missing.

there is a type of penalty for embelishing....its called diving. mr crosby partakes in that alot. so do many NHL players. some are good and dont get caught, and some arent as good. i think Dipietro embelished some of the plays. at the end of the day there was contact with him and he sold the refs.

however i dont think comeau put on an act. he got hit hard and was caught off guard. therefore he couldnt brace himself for the hit which is probably why he fell the way he did. i dont agree with the major call for a hit to the head since there was none. cleary a clean hit that made contact with the shoulder. had letang kept his arms down through the hit the call probably never would have been called. the fact his arms went up i think caused the refs to make the call.

You could be right about Comeau, but he was off the ice 34 seconds after being caught off guard. They also had him on the big screen laughing going to the bench.. so I think I called it pretty acurately. Not sure what they showed on TV, but at the game, he was laughing approaching the bench.. If he was dazed he would not have started playing so fast after the incident.

Its almost funny about the Mr. Crosby dives.. Of course he goes down to draw a penalty. So does every skilled player. Crosby draws a lot of penalties because he is fast and highly skilled. Ovechkin does the same..They both actually can possess the puck which they will then draw penalties..
 
Dude Comeau needs an oscar for his acting like he got ko'd in a fight ....the play was rite infront of me at the arena .....clearly a clean hit ....the Crosby dives comments are really old man get something new
 
sorry there nick i was just saying that every player embelishes or dives. part of the game. i was only using crosby as the one penguin i know and have seen in person completes such an act. not bashing him or even saying hes wrong (Even though it might seem that way when i wrote it)

if comeau did as you say give him an oscar then. but i agree that it was a clean hit and did not even need a 2 min minor nevermind a major. but being an islander fan ill take i
