Upstanding Member,
I would consider the Torres/Eberle hit much more similar to the Moore/Naslund than the Seabrook hit and the Torres/Eberle did result in a 4 game suspension.
Since when was a "severe" hit an element of a 5 minute major? Last time I checked it required an injury at the least, which apparently was not present.
Interference is when you check a guy away from the puck who is trying to get to the play.

No, its the same predatory type hit. Torres has no interest in the puck on any of those hits. Just trying to lay a guy out. Which, imo, is ok as long as the guy has the puck, which Seabrook didnt, yet. his timing was out but he was still looking for the hit, not the puck. Same as Moore on Naslund. The League need to get rid of that instigator penalty and take away some of the armor these guys call "pads" Ever see an interview with Shanahan after a game? He used to wear shoulder and elbow pads that looked like something from the 1950s. Sorry to get OT, but this kind of crap is really beginning to get to me about the league. No more tough guys, just a bunch of $hitheads that think they are tough because they dont have to fight after taking too many liberties. I'd like to see Torres try that on someone like Messier back in the 80s. He might have tried it, once.
Please don't lump us all together. Me being condescending comes from my naturally warm and bubbly personality. Being a Canucks fan is just a coincidence.
In this particular case whether it is a 5 minute or not has to do with the intent of the play. Not the presence of an injury, or lack of. They are ruling that there was no intent and that it was a hockey related play similar to a neutral zone collision with two players going north/south.
That is only one circumstance where an interference may be called. There are many others.
I agree. Certainly when you consider the players actions as part of the over all play when gauging his intent. In the case of Torres/Eberle, Torres deviated from a logical hockey play to make the hit. That shows a predatory intent and is part of what gets considered by the league.
