Capitals-Senators Preview and can be seen here: TSN, VERSUS (HD)

Thanks to a resurgent offense, Ottawa enters Tuesday with a 2-0-1 mark in its last three games.

The Senators have scored 12 times in that span, including Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to visiting Montreal. Dany Heatley netted a pair of third-period goals and Mike Fisher added another with 1:47 remaining in regulation as Ottawa rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime.

Following a brief slump, Alexander Ovechkin has quickly gotten back on track and so have the Washington Capitals.

Given Ovechkin's recent history against Ottawa, that could mean a long night for the Senators (15-21-7) when they host the reigning league MVP and the Capitals (30-14-3) on Tuesday.

By scoring his 30th and 31st goals in Monday's 2-1 overtime victory at the New York Islanders, Ovechkin took over sole possession as the NHL's goal-scoring leader for the first time this season, one ahead of Philadelphia's Jeff Carter.

Maybe when he's reached a 200 shot lead over everyone else he'll be up by 2 goals ;)

What is it with the Capitals taking stupid penalties late in the game lately??

Theo had a great SO going Monday afternoon, then we take to 2 stupid penalties in a row and give the Isles a 5-3 for 1:57. Face it. If your team can't score on a 5-3 for 1:57, then your team sucks. I'd love to know what the league PP percentage is for 5-3's for greater than 1 minute. Probably 50.0+. They just shot themselves in the foot and got lucky that didn't throw Theo off.

And last night... Alex Semin takes a stupid tripping penalty and costs his team the game. Sure, we ALMOST tied it up in the last few seconds (if it weren't for Heatley saving the game by knocking the puck back to Elliot) but it's not good enough. This game SHOULD'VE been destined for OT............. but no. We gotta STOP taking dumb penalties.

End of rant.
