Capitals - Panthers Preview and can be seen here: CSN-DC (HD), FS-F with a 7:30pm EDT puck drop!

The Capitals (43-22-6) had a chance to move into second in the East on Monday but suffered a 5-1 loss to Atlanta - their most lopsided defeat since a 6-2 setback to Florida (34-25-10) on March 1.

Washington - one point back of second-place New Jersey - had a season-high 50 shots on goal, but only Eric Fehr's found the back of the net with 1:15 remaining in the third period. The Capitals, who have a 13-point lead over second-place Carolina in the Southeast, are just 1-4-0 when recording 45 or more shots.

Despite all the scoring opportunities, Boudreau was unhappy with the performance.

"There were some effort issues," he said. "Until we start learning how to get dirty ... some guys are stuck on a certain amount of (personal) goals."

Florida (34-25-10), which has not been to the playoffs since 2000, is ninth in the conference, one point back of eighth-place Carolina and only four points out of fifth.

The Panthers postseason push has stalled a bit, though. Florida suffered its third straight defeat with a 4-3 shootout loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Despite blowing a 3-1 lead with seven minutes remaining in the third period, the Panthers managed to salvage a point. Florida, which has not lost four straight games since Dec. 26-31, also got a point in the first game of its skid - last Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh.

"We got a point and we've got to keep moving forward here," Panthers coach Pete DeBoer said.

To make the playoffs, Florida needs to take advantage of a schedule featuring eight of its final 13 regular-season games at home. The Panthers opened a five-game homestand Sunday and have alternated wins and losses in their last eight at the BankAtlantic Center.

Im scared about this game too.

With the lack luster effort in goal last night.
I so hope this puts the nail in the coffin for Jose.

I want Johnson back.....

Excuse my "WTF", but. WTF?

2 things.. theres a game tonight? And 5:50 puck drop? Special St. Patty's day time or something?

EDIT: That's gotta be wrong... I just checked NHL.com and it says 7:30.

I'm hoping ovy gets the 50 and opens the floodgates again. We all know he likes to finish the season well. And hope theo plugs up those big holes lol.Man talk about a team needing a goaltender who at least can be counted on to stop most stuff.I was hoping for someone to come in but...
I say 5-2 caps
mike

Three or More will be in goal tonight

St Pattys Day 52 will play tonight despite not playing last night

Sergei Fedorov is expected to play tonight

As for Pothy...... "?"

1-0 Caps after 2 on a Brooks Laich SHG. Powerplays are 3-0 for the Panthers. Second straight game the Caps have not had a PP in the 1st half of the game. Still haven't had one in this one.

On the Caps third penalty, somehow Semin got an interference penalty when he hit a guy who was playing the puck.

Should be a good 3rd period. I'm sure Florida will get 3-4 more powerplays too.

Can you believe it.
I was going to set up the I hate Josethreeormore site tonight and he gets a Shutout.....

I need to saying Im going to do this everytime he is in net.

WOOHOO
CAPS WIN.....THE CAPS WIN.......

Hell has frozen over.....Jose 'Threeormore' Theodore got a shutout.:eek:

Great statement game for the Caps after the disappointing loss last night in Atlanta. Props are in order for the whole team holding Florida to a grand total of 0 shots in the 3rd period.

Lastly, Congrats to Ovy........on his 400th career NHL point:D

Derek

Well like everyone else...Woot a shutout for theo.Hmm who woulda called that one lol?But still another 2 points is good even though no 50 goals again.
Nice win
mike

Well..

Who'd have thunk it that Jose 'Threeormore' Theodore would garner a shut out?

Congrats to the Caps' on a well deserved win against a team below them in the standings and a division rival too boot! ;)
