George Armstrong Autograph?

Hi everybody, I was hoping to confirm something here. If memory serves me, former Leaf captain George Armstrong has never had a certified autograph card, corrrect? I ask because I'm in the market for his auto. Thanks for any help!

The other Chief? Nope. I believe his reason was that he wanted his autograph to carry some value after he passed away for the sake of his children, whom he seems to have signed merchandise for.
 
his auto does exist. Ive seen it. Ive held it in my hand. It was from one of those products that offers a slabbed cut auto per box. It was a 1/1. Dont ask me which product.
 
Thanks for the info guys! I hadn't heard about his reasoning for not signing either. Very interesting. There's an eBay seller named beardentoys that has several PSA/DNA authenticated Armstrong autos and he seems pretty legit, so I think I'll try dealing with him. Thanks again for the info!

Jason Letourneau - sets up at every Expo with wife, Josee and always a pleasure to chat with.
 
From what Ive heard its not next to impossible to get cut autos from him. He doesnt sign and doesnt sign anything else. Bills,Cheques etc. Its all under his wifes name.
 
The Real Chief...i'm also native american, so i buy what i find of his, which isn't often..i did just pick up a game used Armstrong Team signed stick off classicauctions which includes his auto..but as for cards, i never seen one myself.
 
Mr. Armstrong is at a number of the Barrie Colts games each season where we run the auctions, and he doesn't sign there at all. I'm fortunate enough to have gotten a few autographs from the Robert Thomas Collection (see our web site in the sig below), but those are long gone.

I also have several triple-signed 16x20s with him, Frank Mahovlich and Bert Olmstead that were done at the Expo a LONGGGG time ago. He apparently used to sign through the First Nations charities, but apparently something happened and he quit doing it.
 
George has signed cards for me twice.

Many years ago we had some channel specific inserts in one of our products that he signed. He also signed some cards for me when I did the Missing Link.

He is a very nice but shy man. Many dealers have tried to do a signing with him but he stays away from it. Out of respect we have left him alone although we would love to work with him again.

When you say he signed for you are you talking about personally or for insertion into a product?

I appreciate you adding that insight to this thread. I'm really interested in if those Missing Link autos where packed out because there is an Armstrong Missing Link card on eBay that the seller says was signed in person.

Thanks to everyone who responded as well. Hopefully I can work something out with beardentoys.
 
No they were not packed out. I sent many of the players 100 of their base cards to sign for me personally and George kindly signed his.

This was back in 1993.

I also think that we did insert some in products but I better research that since at my age the memory goes just after the eyesight.

Just did the research, I thought George Armstrong signed for the channel specific inserts in In The Game - Memorabilia in 2000. I just checked the list on our website and I was incorrect, he was not on the list.

Told you the memory goes at my age.

Now I am intrigued and I will go to the office to see if I can find the ones he signed for me in 1993.

Perhaps the others he signed for me were the Parkhurst reprints I did years ago, maybe that's what I was thinking of.

I will report back once I get to the office.

Being native american as well, I'd love to pick up a George Armstrong autograph for my collection too. He did used to sign through the 7th Generation Charities as Wayne mentioned, but they were few and far between, and I don't think he does it anymore.

So here's what I have. Signed base cards from Missing Link and 1967 Bobby Orr Rookie product and signed cards from the Parkhurst reprint set.

Some signed in gold and some in ball point pen.

Do you think these are now a candidate for release in packs Doc? It sounds like there are quite a few people that would like to have George's autograph in their collection.

Could this one be from your signing? It is signed in gold and has some gold ink on the bottom, which would imply he signed several in gold and stacked them on top of each other. I picked it up for a great deal as it was listed as "George Custer" (General George Armstrong Custer) on the ebay listing.

Now that's a beauty! Lucky that someone got confused with General Custer. Thanks for sharing.

Dr. Price, I appreciate you taking the time to look into this. I don't blame you for holding onto those autographed cards, they must look great. Thanks for the information!
