Get on this, UD!

I love this set and it further underscores how poorly hockey collectors are being served by UD.

I also opened some retail Mosaic basketball recently and that product/break was better than any hockey I’ve broken maybe ever. Other sports actually have good retail product, consider that.

I have said it many times UD is stale.

Each week I go to Walmart for grocery's. They have not restocked the card section in a few weeks. Same cards on the shelf are UD S1. When you can't sell hockey cards in Canada, during a Pandemic, during the biggest card boom in years, you have a problem.

Even Topps Opening Day was gone and that stuff is not good at all.

Anyway back on topic....for anyone that buys a lot look into topcashback.com. They give 3% cash back on all card purchases at Topps. It adds up if you buy a lot from there.

It doesn't help that they keep raising the costs of those blasters while simultaneously lowering the amount of packs in them so you get less YGs. Sorry UD but I'm not paying $50+tax for a tin with two YGs in it.

I used to open maybe 5-10 Series 1 tins every year. No more.

Agreed. Those prices (for what you end up receiving) are just totally whack.

Same here. I used to check the card section every single time we went to Wal-Mart, exclusively for these tins. I don't go anywhere near them now.
Last time I walked by that aisle, the hockey stuff looked liked the least sold, and this is in the heart of hockey country. If I were a kid, I'd be much more attracted to the cheaper and more colorful packaging/cards from other sports and hobbies. The hockey stuff is bland and overpriced.

The big tragedy I see here is that these big box store tins are the only exposure a lot of kids get to hockey cards. In rural settings, far from hobby shops, these tins were how I got into cards as a kid. Anyone remember those 2003/04 OPC Tins? They were cheap and fun and helped get me into the hobby. They were around $5-10 a can with a few packs. No way my mother would have let me spent $50+ on a tin of cards. Furthermore, if I spent $50 of my hard earned money as a kid on a pile of junk cards, it would have turned me off big time. Even kids can tell when they're getting screwed. This is the stuff that hurts the hobby in the long run.

And with the market softening SIGNIFICANTLY, Topps just changed the whole dynamic and reinvigorated the project again. Trout, always bet on Trout!

Announced today for card #100 in the project.

“Look for surprise Mike Trout Auto's!

For every Mike Trout card artists drop moving forward, there will be a total of 10 hand numbered on-card autograph cards randomly inserted into the print run. *The autograph version will replace the base card.”

You think with the addition of randomly inserted Trout autos, that the print runs for these are going to increase?

Oh yeah! LOL

I just went through the old ones to look at print runs and it's nuts how they've spiked recently. And the Trout ones seem to be 100x more popular than the others. I'm interested to see how many this one ends up at.

But to your point - adding the autos is a huge plus and great move by them I think.
