giguere contemplating retirement

just heard on sportsnet that he has told the ducks that either he is going to be the starter or he will just retire. apparantly he doesnt want to end his career as a backup. he said the team has four games to make a decision. did anyone else see this? just thought id share (sorry marko)
 
They had his quote on during the game and he basically said that he would rather retire than be a backup and that, one way or another, Hiller would have to go or he would - he came across as a competitive guy that still has some fire in his guts from what I gathered. I'll try to find the exact quote here but it wasn't anything you haven't heard before from a vet that has had some struggles.

hmmm interesting. I understand he wants to play but he is being paid like a professional and he is definitely not acting very professional about it.

I guess the difference is in the real world if you don't like your job you can quit, but in professional sports you can't really quit so all you can do is suck it up.
 
So why not simply request a trade? There are plenty of teams that could use his services, if only throughout this year.
 
He sounded like a bit of a cry baby. But he could probably still contribute and play somewhere as a starter. If things don't work out in Anaheim why not go somewhere else? IMO, playing as a back-up would still be better than retiring, but I'm not him.

OP said Giguere asked to be the starter or he'd retire. No idea what was actually said.

Regardless, like I said there are a handful of teams that could use him. And he isnt exactly a bad goalie, they should be able to get a decent return on him.
 
Why not try to trade him to the Kings? Has their goalie situation improved? I'm sure the Ducks would be okay with getting his salary off the books, and that would keep him in Cali for his son's treatments. Of course, the Ducks would probably want too much for him, but I'm sure he would help out the Kings franchise and they could get some young talent and a backup goalie in return, and then offer Hiller a raise based on saving the money from moving Jiggy's contract.
 
All in all Giguere wont retire but I hope he doesnt get moved. Hiller is a good goalie but Giguere is a huge reason why they won the Cup in 07 and brought them to the finals in 03. He hasnt got as many chances this year to prove himself yet. Somewhat due to a groin injury but regardless Hiller has played more! I really hope the Ducks play him more and he can take the number one job. I personally dont think he was being a cry baby at all. We all get frustrated at our jobs sometimes and sometimes say the wrong thing or it comes out wrong as Jiggy stated. He is just showing how competitive he is. If he is gone from the Ducks soon I wont like it one bit being a huge Ducks and Giguere fan!
 
They were talking about him on HNIC tonight and said no teams were interested at the moment because of the cap hit.

I think if they want to trade him they will have to sweeten the pot by throwing in a good prospect or a pick.
