In my case it's a brand new deck. My rebuild is now complete, and I'm very happy with the results. I have 2 decks across the back of the house, both of them are over 25 years old. The original deck was getting spongy in spots, and the Duradek vinyl covering wasn't looking so great anymore. We ended up replacing a few rotten boards, and then putting the new decking material on top of the old decks. I bought pvc boards (all plastic) for the deck, and Trex (mix of plastic and wood chips) for the skirting. A friend of mine has his own renovating company (2 employees), both of whom retired from their "regular" jobs a few years ago. The best part of this was that they allowed me to work alongside them, which I found very rewarding. We worked half days, and had 2 snowstorms that delayed our work, but we finally finished the other day. I plan on spending a lot of time relaxing on my new deck.

That looks amazing. I love the mix of light and dark on the deck surface.

Having refinished my own last year I understand the rewarding feeling you are experiencing.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Scott, my friend actually suggested "framing" the deck with the darker colour. I got lucky with that, the onyx (dark grey) only became available at the store a week before I placed my order. Using a hinge system and cortex plugs means that no screws are visible on the deck, and the screws on the skirting are close to being the same colour as the boards.
