Gold Rookie Patch Autograph Grail Acquisition!

One of my favorite sets to collect is the 2005–06 Gold Parallel RPAs. The design, rookie checklist, and the potential for extreme rarity created by limiting print runs to each player’s jersey number make it an incredible challenge for both player and set collectors.

While I’ve owned the most prized card in the set—my Ovechkin RPA /8—for many years, it isn’t necessarily the toughest to find, as other set players wore numbers 4 through 7. The true rarity is the Dion Phaneuf RPA, limited to just three copies. A few months ago, I was fortunate not only to track one down, but also to strike a deal and add it to my collection. Pictured below is my 2005–06 The Cup Gold Rookie Patch Autograph Dion Phaneuf, numbered 2/3, featuring an awesome three-color Flames patch.

I’m thrilled to finally cross this one off the list.

Definitely not as much as it would have been in years past, but definitely the upper limits for any Phaneuf rookies these days haha.

that is a great pickup. Especially to find such a short printed card all these years later

Beautiful card, I remember many chased it when it was released. I loved watching Phaneuf in Calgary. I had row 1 seat 1 near the corner one night at the dome and every time Phaneuf went into the corner, he had an "I'm going to kill you" look on his face as he completed his check. Great memories and a great pickup for you.
