Anyone watching prices of Gretzky graded rookies? Since March, they are really seeing unprecedented selling prices. OPC PSA 4’s are topping $1,000 Canadian.

What’s the reason for this? COVID? Gretzky RCs finally getting their due? Vintage in general getting love? Him still holding 60 NHL records 21 years after retirement?

There is a lot of reasons, don't think we can pinpoint just one, but COVID is helping for sure. Not a lot of hobbies availible right now, so might as well pickup some cards!

It's a great thing to see for the hobby! :)

Perhaps some spill-over from the surge of new investors coming into the majors sports lately. Blue chips like Gretzky are always pretty safe buys.

This amazing looking, frankly under-graded PSA 3 (how is it only a PSA 3? It looks better than my PSA 5 lol) just sold for $900 CDN a few minutes ago:

However the last two bidders are 0 and 1 feedback accounts so... Draw your own conclusions on whether it's a legit sale or not.

Another PSA 3 is over $900 Canadian with 4 days left in auction.

I think people are bored from self quarantine with money to spend. Can't spend it on summer vacation. Card values are going up... Gretzky, McDavid, Crosby, Lemieux, Ovi, Draisaitl, this is great for the hobby !!!

So will the folks who made so much profit on P2020 that they were reportedly buying houses and whatnot start getting hit with waves of eBay returns? That could get pretty messy.

Anyone that experienced the Crypto bubble from 2016-2018 is watching Topps 2020 laughing. I keep seeing tweets about rates of return, unlimited gains, returns, etc. There are going to be a ton of bagholders in a few months.

They are getting lit up on returns. Some cards that were 1k 5 days ago are in the 400 dollar range. An Ermsy Trout sold for 650 today - that was a 2k card 10 days ago lol.

Just a mess.

On twitter I saw a thread with screenshots of a buyer wanting a partial refund because the card was selling for hundreds of dollars less after a couple of days. The seller's response was along the lines of, "If the price had gone up instead of down, would you have given me more money for the card?" Unfortunately, charge backs will be plentiful as regretful buyers try to back out of purchases.

Man, I would hate that if I was a seller. Whether you win or lose the deal as a buyer, I think you should honour the deal and just move along. Even if you take a big loss. It happens.
