I was told once that if the OPC Gretzky rookie had the blue first print run lines on the back it’s real.
I encountered a person trying to sell a fake that had the blue lines. And then I came across this ebay item
So I guess someone has faked the first prints.
Maybe this is old news but it’s new to me.
Be careful buying raw Gretzky rookies!

Oh boy, those will fool a lot of people. If you really look at it, you can definitely tell it is not real for a number of reasons, but yeah, that will definitely trick a lot of people that just automatically assume "OH IT HAS BLUE LINES AND A YELLOW DOT!"

I could tell it was fake but like you said it will fool somebody. Someone will pay the thousand bucks for it that the person was asking on Kijiji. I told them it’s fake and they tried to provide proof it wasn’t. Lol. Anyways. Be careful out there!

Reprints need to be clearly marked on the card. This seller is complicit in any future fraud and should be reprimanded.

The ebay seller hides the RP in the title but I’m sure most people realize it isn’t real if they get it for $20.

I'm assuming in person the card stock is going to be plainly different than the original. It looks like the brown stock colour has been printed onto modern white cardboard, which is why the white is sticking out at the edges.

However, for online auctions, this is going to cause all sorts of trouble. A smart scammer is going to distress the card slightly. Anyone who buys a Gretzky OPC rookie this centered and with these edges should be suspicious from the get go. However, not everyone who buys one of these cards would have the proper knowledge and experience to discern this from the original.

You guys would be surprised at how many Gretzky and Lemieux rookies have made it into 3rd party's slabs since the mid 90's
