GRRR! Ebay make Hulk MAD!!!

Your not paying for the service? Then why does shipping and handling never equal the total you pay? For example with envelope and stamp it may cost $1 to ship. You pay $3. That extra $2 is used for what?

Handling, listing fees, PayPal fees, final value fees, etc.

eBay states quite clearly that the above fees should be built into the shipping cost. Someone who does this does absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever.

Someone who charges $3 for shipping and ships in a white envelope *IS* doing something wrong, however. A bubble mailer costs less than a dime. To ship in a bubble mailer costs an extra .13 for something that weighs an ounce or less, and no extra charge for something that weighs more than an ounce. So, at worst, it costs the seller an extra .22 to send the item in the manner in which he would expect to receive the item.

I have never shipped an item in a white envelope, and despise those who do.

Wow, didn't expect to get such passionate responces. Anyway, here's my perspective to selling on ebay. As a seller, if I receive timely payment for an item that I've sold, I always leave positive feedback, I don't "hold my feedback hostage" as some do, though I can understand why people do it. Secondly, I always send my cards in a bubble mailer without exception. I don't understand people who don't ship with bubble mailers, they're just asking for headaches.
The main reason that I left this guy a neutral is because he wouldn't respond to me when I first asked why he sent with a bubble mailer. You may think I'm wrong for doing this, but I don't care. I've received retaliatory negatives before, and I'm sure to get them again.

I do it. I will never stop doing it, and I have never heard a valid argument to do otherwise. It's smart business to wait until feedback has been left for you before you leave it.

There are a LOT of schmucks on eBay. There are probably more schmucks than decent people, and they are all looking for a way to get over on you.

If you approach your eBay business (for some of us, it is a business) with the attitude that you are going to do everything you can to make your customers happy and the realization that a negative feedback is unavoidable, you're in good shape. I have yet to receive a negative, but it's just a matter of time. And when it happens, it will be because the other guy is a schmuck, not because I did anything negative-worthy. And when I receive it, it will be reciprocated.

Sorry if I rambled. I tend to do that.

Well that is not entirely true, there is a valid reason on both sides of most arguements. To others what your saying may not be valid.

However, with that said I do agree with you completely on the feedback. There are a lot of schmuks (I'll be using that term for weeks :D ) out there. I hold feedback hostage as well. The difference is that when a buyer complains or asks a question I will answer in a timely fashion and if the request or problem is reasonable then I'll make sure to correct the issue. This seller did not do that. The least he could have done was reply. He replied after the neutral was left.

Let's not cover up for a bad seller. Regardless of shipping prices he 1) Ships in a white envelope 2) Does not reply to questions or concerns 3) Rather than addressing a problem he becomes defensive and threatens a negative.

I think we can all agree that this guy is not a good seller.

I still leave in a dream world and use the feedback as it was meant, as feedback, not hostage! I have been burned once but I still think it is worth doing right.

If you're just doing it as a hobby, that's fine. If you do it as a business, you are going to get burned and burned, and every time you do, your credibility takes a hit regardless of whether you deserved it or not.

Giving feedback immediately upon payment costs you money in the long run.

Gat - That hasn't been my experience. I've given feedback immediately upon receipt of payment. In over 2000 completed sales transactions, I've had 2 or 3 buyers where it would have been preferable to withhold feedback pending their receipt of cards. Less than 0.1-0.15% of sales transactions. For the additional grief incurred, it's not worth it to me to hold feedback hostage. Perhaps future dealings will change that perspective, but I doubt it.

I have to agree with quincy!!!!

2245 feedback received by suitman19 from buyers (0 ratings mutually withdrawn)

There is my feedback from buyers only on the Bay. Of those exactly 1 left me a neg - when I used to offer the choice of $1.75 for white envelope or $2.00 for padded. They chose to save $.25 and the card was damaged. My other 3 negs were all retaliatory from sellers that did not live up to their end - withheld feedback - and then negged me when I negged them.

Soory - but most everyone on ebay is kind courteous and the kind of collectors I prefer to deal with. If you think that most are there to be a bother - it is time to find another source of income.

Why? Yes, they are a bother, but I make really good money.

Just because there are schmucks on eBay doesn't mean that it's not a good place to make money. Just means you have to deal with schmucks.

And because of the schmucks out there (especially during the holidays), I have to wait until I receive feedback from buyers before I leave them feedback. It's just smart business. A schmuck is a lot less likely to ding me if he knows he will be dinged in return.
